From the specs you posted, the bass is sure to be a killer. I can not wait to see progress shots.
Here is some Sadowsky action too! Some good old swingin' blues. I was not using my rig, so the bass was a bit louder then I thought (oops).....but you can sure hear is on the vid! BTW, that is my '88 NYC.

took over 9 months to get into my hands!!! but well worth the wait

Sadowsky NYC Vintage 5, ash/maple vs. F Bass VF5 alder/rosewood
Both basses single-coils, both with DR HiBeams with a few miles on them, both fully blended, both with the passive tone control rolled of about 30%, both with NO EQ (tho the preamp is engaged.) Radial JDI passive DI into Protools, no EQ.
Caveats, as this was done totally on the spur of the moment as I was just getting ready to take off after finishing some demo clips for the cover band I'm in, no practice, no planning, just the first stupid line that came to mind. The playing is sloppy as hell and the drum loop is too loud.
However, I think it's still somewhat telling how similarly they sound despite the different woods, and how great they both sit in a mix. I do hear some diffs, but I'll let you guys comment, and if you dare, tell me which bass is which.
Bottom line, I'm SO diggin' both these basses.

IMHO, the second bass sounds much better, especially in the low register that rings deeper with more clarity. It also seem to have quicker response.
These differences may easily caused by different string type/age but since you took that out of the equation I must say I prefer the second one.

Try a new string, I remember having a similar problem with that same note. I changed the string and the problem was gone. I put back the old string just to make sure I wasn't hearing things and the problem was back. I've never had that problem again.
Funny thing is that that same 'problematic' string worked well on my fretless (where it lived till the end of its life

but i'm having the same problem on my black nord fatstack loaded sadowsky. any note below the E on the low B string sounds wimpy and has little sustain. just doesnt feel and thick and big as those notes should be.
on the other hand, on my sunburst v5, i have none of that problem, and it sounds glorious. as an experiment, i literally swapped low B strings, and yet, the problem persists.
before i make the trek down to the shop, gonna try a totally new set of strings and see how that goes first.
Yeah I'll be popping by my local luthier to check out the bass. He thinks it could be a low 5th fret or a high 6th fret. Hopefully its that cause that would be a relatively easy fix I think.
Its just that one note but its enough to drive me crazy.
Oh btw, I swopped out the E string with my other bass' E string but the problem persisted, so its probably not a string thing.

Wow, quite a looker!
I wouldn't say 'much' better, but it also sounds better to me, a little bit punchier and with more definition and attack on each note. As nenor said maybe something easy to change with strings/eq.
