Normally, I'd say absolutely, no doubt... I'd just have one concern on a bass with this tight of a quilt... It might be a bit too "busy". I'd just have to see it first. But from strictly a color theme point of view, yeah, tort all the way big time.

Another random thought... how about a custom guard made of "trans black" (smoke)? That way you'd be able to see that beautiful quilt throughout, and still kinda' have the black guard you're feelin'?

My first thought was clear. Rob L. said thumbs down on that. LOL. The more I look at it, the more I like black. Dont want the focus to be taken away from the top. Plus, it matches all the black parts. With Tortoise, I feel I have a 3 tone thing going on. Dont want that

I dig the tort and prefer it to most anything, but that black non-ply guard is really nice on that top. I have to agree with your gut on that one.

Hi everyone,
I received my long awaited Metro MV4 2 days back... the tone is fantastic and the workmanship is impeccable. However during my band rehearsal yesterday, I noticed the A note(5th fret) on the E string didn't sustain as long as the other notes... it was a real bummer to me. I really noticed it while doing the slower numbers where note sustain is critical. The other notes and frets were fine, only this one. I've emailed Kevin at Sadowsky and am yet to receive a reply but I also want to check if anyone on this board has had this problem before? I'm kinda sad.
Any help/comments would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Sounds like a deadspot. They can occur on any wooden neck instruments. Kevin should be able to suggest some things to help out - there are ways to "move" them.Hi everyone,

Was their a bass in those pictures? It seems to me your just showing off Leanne.
Actually I've never seen a natural quilt top / Maple Sadowsky that didn't look stunning. And the few I've seen with birseye boards in that combo were incredible.

Well....I got my new(to me) NYC P/J5 the other day, and man this bass sounds HUGE. The front P pickup sounds like a P should , yet a touch more modern. I was also considering have the front routed for a reverse P , which always just a little more sense to me.The action is super low and is in great overall condition. The only thing about it was , I felt like the ALL black hardware was a little over the top. so I put a chrome Bell cover and nickel screws on the guard and POW, it evened it out for me. what do you think?? Then I was thinking......ya know...maybe a mint green guard would look great too, so i pulled my black guard all the way off to do a tracing and HOLY CRAP!!!!!!!!!! It was already routed for a Reverse P!!!! SUPRISE!!! wow, awesome. And...the route is also big enough for a single, so...Im get a few guards made now to accomidate any combination I want. I will let yall know what the sound difference is. Im playing Bourbon Street tomorrow (Lundi Gras) which is the day before Fat Tuesday as a regular P/J. Then on Tuesday, (Mardi Gras) I will pull the guard and reverse the P and play with no guard and see how it sounds.....

Why not skip the pickguard all together (is that an option)?
It seems to be a shame to hide the wonderful figuring of your custom top.
I dig seeing all of the tiger's eye there is to show on mine and owuld hate to cover it up.
