My Sadowsky Precision Basses. 3TSB is a NYC and the maple is a TYO which is an incredible build.. Two amazing instruments.

Back in the 90's, Eddie Van Halen purchased a bass from me for his home studio. Honestly, I have not given it much thought over the last 25 years. Last night, my friend and great photographer, Larry Dimarzio, send me this photo which he took in the 90's. I got chills looking at it. Glad to be able to share it with you and a big thanks to Larry!

When I was in my youth, I worked as an engineer in a 24 track studio in Pittsburgh. My childhood buddy, Joey Granati, and his brothers formed a band (G Force), were "discovered" by Gentle Giant, got a recording contract and toured warming up for Van Halen for two years from '79 to '81. I convinced Joey to take up the bass guitar for the band (they were using keyboard bass at the time). Joey had a lot of fun stories to tell about VH. Those brothers were in their early 20's and having one heck of an experience touring the US with VH.
I got an assistant engineer credit on their album, produced by Ray Shulman from Gentle Giant. Their lead engineer went on to record Moving Pictures with Rush in '81. Pretty cool.

Me too. Ray Shulman got them to change names for the album. Joey and I were both huge Chris Squire fans. They talked about me doing sound for them on tour, but I graduated college and got a "real job", instead. I bought a '75 Fender Precision from them in '79 and had it for many years then stupidly traded it for a synth keyboard about 10 years ago. I'm trying to dig up Joey Granati's email so I can show him my new Sadowsky and get his thoughts on Eddie. They toured together for a long time.
