Right now I have:
- NYC PJ5 (1.875” nut ; w/rounds for a change)
- Olinto P5 (1.875@ nut; Chrome flats/foam mute
- Shoreline Gold PJ5 (1.75” Will Lee nut/taper ; black label rounds)
to the Sadowsky family. I think I got the PJ thing covered. Not a bad one in the bunch. The 5 string is for sale. Warning don't buy a Sadowsky it will ruin you for other basses.
That’s the exact one I found through the new cool search options on the Sadowsky site. That with a maple neck and pearloid guard would be what I’m imagining
right now i have... ok, too embarrassed to say... but at least i have two NYC JJ5s, a MIJ MetroExpress JJ5, and a MIJ Metroline PJ5... and one on the way. yep, it's a sickness!!

Glad to see this bass in our fellow's hands. This is a pretty good one, right weight, responsive and good neck shape, I originally ordered this as P5 with swimming pool route, so I can play with different P position, later on I have the shop added the J when I was in NYC for touring, better than ever...
The only reason I sold it is really because I want a brazilian rosewood board PJ5...Enjoy this one!

If I didn’t have Roger building me a Musicman 5/MM5 Sadowsky in braz Rw/ash, I’d keep this one as my ‘super fast neck FONK stick’. Notes really leap iff the fretboard on this bass.
Absolutely get the brazilian thing. There’s a sweetness in the highs and note clarity on last 4 notes of the B that is unparalleled IMO. I’ve done some EXTENSIVE field work towards that conclusion and it seems I’m in good company here!
My other ‘why did you EVER get rid of it?’ PJ5 was unchambered ash, bird’s eye maple neck/board. Just aggressive and growly in all the right ways. ‘Punchy’ even.

Yes, For my rosewood board'ed bass, I noramlly opt'ed for Brazilian if option is available and charged as reasonable price, not because they are rare or more expensive, purpose on doing this is totally because of the tone, brazilian board gave extra zing and attack to the note compare with indian/indonesian board which I actually preferred, they sound something between rosewood and maple, while not as dense as morado and ebony... just something in between and sound good to my ears.

Again, I concur, and I literally have the means to test it in a semi scientific way. Indian RW is my next favorite. Bit darker/warmer.
I’m a flats guy (D’Addario Chromes, which are unique as far as flats IME) and that extra sweetness/pitch clarity of Brazilian pairs well. Might be why all those pre CBS P’s/J’s had ‘that sound’.
Just been chasing ‘Jamerson but with a B-string’ I guess. Roger has lit the way.
Have to say, that silver sparkle bass on your wall makes me wanna run Bootsy/Rick James lines, in thigh high platform boots.
I’ve had too many “why did you EVER get rid of it” basses haha. However one of my biggest regrets was not buying an absolutely killer sounding MV5-HPJ from Club Bass in Toronto a few years ago. Absolutely smoking good bass. Growly, punchy and clear all the way up the board. Thinking of ordering an NYC...
If money was no object, I would have about 10 different Sadowsky basses that were, at the time, the sound I was going for. Most consistent level of quality I've seen, not just for instruments, but for any manufactured product. I'm 10 years in, as far as Purchasing/QC/ISO/AS9100 and I would not throw that out there lightly.
It's been a weird journey, but I remember having some of those 'never sells' and thinking, in that GAS-infused interior monologue ... 'yeah ... but imagine a P-body, heavy like you like, cause you're a freak, in seafood green, with actual Brazilian Rosewood'. At the end of the day, I'm mostly a one-bass-to-a-gig guy, and my Sea-foam Green PJ5 FONK-Hammer just keeps putting a smile on my face.

I’ve had a few that I let go over the years. But, the consistency level is so great that a new one comes in and easily fills that void. I’ve never owned a bad Sadowsky and most likely never will!
Kind of wild to think about ordering a used bass you haven't even played/touched, but doing it anyways because you just know it's going to be an exceptional instrument. And yet I'm a frequent-offender.
