Yeah, it was meant to be comical. I have no problem poking fun at myself. As much crap as we all deal with on a daily basis with work, etc, it's nice to just joke around sometimes, without insulting others. You might want to try it.

Sims did both of my Sadowsky's a few years back and i can't tell you how many times they have really helped. Side shots not so good but you get the idea.
In the Vintage 5 we routed out room for a side by side battery compartment and wired it in to a push/pull pot (treble boost) on the front panel.
The 24-5 had room in the cavity for an additional 9v (thank you, Roger) so all I did was set up a table top jig to make sure the hole i needed to drill from the neck pocket to the neck pick up cavity was straight. Again wired into a push/pull pot at the treble boost position. We did put an in line resistor in the 24F because the blue LED's were almost too bright.
I get about 40-60 hours of illumination from one 9v.
I have heard of a company that will custom make LED strips for instruments that stick to the top of the fingerboard w/ a small dime sized battery that attaches to the back of the headstock, but i have no 1st hand experience with these units. I like Martin Sims designs, workmanship and service. Both necks were turned around in about 2 weeks.

I prefer to use the miner's helmet with light attachment - those fret illuminations look silly . . .

Wow..Only 1 battery for the LEDs. My Alembic has 4 just for the LEDs. I am not sure if Alembic uses Sims or someone else. But, I was suprised to see that there were 4 batteries just for the side LEDs.
Without digging up the old receipts I think it was a little over $300 US that included shipping to and back from the UK. I spoke w/ Martin Sims a couple of times, he seemed to be a pretty good fellow and sure did a nice job.

Roger, completely off topic, but I had a couple of question when I was browsing the site today that I thought others might be interested in:
1. What happened to instrument number 5000? Was it a special one off piece or just a "normal" (what a horribly unbefitting term to describe your basses) Sadowsky?
2. Any plans to make any 30th anniversary models with special features etc (IIRC the 20th anniversary models were the Koa topped mahogany modern 5s)?
Sorry to go off the LED talk but I have a question for all guys who have had your Sadowsky bass for a while.
Does the Nitro Finish on the neck eventually yellow over time?
I know they offer vintage tint on the NYC models. I'm just curious if my metro's neck will start to yellow.

All nitro will darken/yellow over time. Most lacquer used to have an amber tint right out of the can. The last few years, all the lacquer companies have moved to "water white" lacquer which has no amber tint in it at all. We add a little tint to our lacquer to replicate the original amber lacquer and add even more for the vintage tint. The Metro lacquer has no tint, but it will darken a bit naturally.
