Sadowsky PJ owners... I just stumbled upon a gorgeous Sadowsky PJ5 and I have some questions for you:
- Where do you favour the pickup blend?
- How much bass/treble do you add?
- Why a Sadowsky and not a more 'classic' Precision?
I still love the classic Fender P-bass, but once I got my Sadowsky P5 I realized it was the P-bass tone I'd been looking for for decades (as I've said before, and will again). I prefer active P-basses, and the Sadowsky has the VTC that softens the active edge if it's too much. Just as importantly, Sadowsky feels perfect for my hands.
P.S. I can't answer your PJ questions because I went P only, but according to TalkBass rules I must encourage you to keep both the Nash and the Sadowsky.
Just kidding... that's what I would do, but not everyone has the budget or storage space.

I find that I keep the pickups blended 50/50 [ set in the notch ] most of the time. First thing is I have my amp set flat , on the PJ the bass about 30% and treble about 10% and use the VTC to for most needed changes but that what works for me. I had a P bass years ago but always went back to my J bass , just liked the tone more on the J , then I played a PJ and found that tone I always was chasing just never found one I was comfortable with. I was able to get a Sadowsky RV5 in 2006 which I still have and finally picked up a Sadowsky satin series VW5 and I couldn't be happier. Maybe you keep both a while and see which one fits your needs and wants more and if you can / want keep them both.

I owned a NYC PJ5. I did not care for the mixed pickups. I mostly used as a P only or a J only. As I said on here before the mixed P & J just sounds phased to me. YMMV.
But I did like the versatility with the J soloed.

It's always hard to describe sound. It is more in the direction of a MM than of a jazz, and it has also a bit of a pj in midposition, with a lot of balls in the lows and mid-lows. Enough highs, but a bit less high mids. And with the 2 switches, both series - parallel - single coil, there is a lot to explore. When I find the time I'll do some sound samples.
One too many strings, and one too many snakes, for my taste. But YMMV.

, it's and older Modern. The first series of Modern was always equipped with EMG soapbox, most of the time Roger was using 40J.
