Current pickups are LeCompte triple threat split coils - nice pickups but I just need something with less treble bite and more low mids for this instrument.

Bartolini pickups tend to be polite on top. Another idea is to contact Nordstrand. They offer many stock options in the P2 shape, as well as custom options. Also, they LOVE to talk pickups -- if you give them the same rundown you gave us, they'll be happy to offer suggestions whether stock or custom.
It's getting closer. Coulda' sworn I saw someone else in this thread posting a pretty similar config, but can't find the picture now.
I don't know if the Barts would be too far in the other direction which is why I thought maybe just go with the Sadowsky soapbars, since I know they pair well with that preamp and have a nice fingerstyle tone. I haven't talked with Nordstrand yet but that might be a good conversation to have.

...when I asked why not this configuration of pickups for the Limited Metroline 2022, rather than the MM/J "Sadowland"...
Bart originals are definitely going to be more subdued up top and more compressed sounding overall compared to the Sadowsky soaps. Bart classic bass pickups are going to have more treble extension, maybe just a hint more than the Sadowsky pickups will, and sound much more open than their original bass counterparts. The Sadowsky soaps are great sounding pickups that may be right up your alley.

My first Sadowsky! What an unbelievable bass - I’ve been a 4 string player for a long time so took me about 2 weeks to adjust the the Sadowsky - but feels like butter now. Really impressed with Roger and his teams quality and attention detail. Put TI fists on her and she plays perfect.

Off topic... Does anybody know who actually is taking custom pickgard orders? I'd like to have a tort alternative for my WL5 because the one I bought direct from the shop didn't fit.
So no there’s a little bit of brightness that I don’t care for. I’m using Sadowsky Blue Label SS rounds right now. No treble boost, a good bit of bass boost, and I’m rolling the VTC off a bit.
I’m wondering if I should give nickel strings a try? Maybe not quite as bright as SS? I use nickel on my other 5. Thoughts?

Nickel could be an option, but before going that route, don’t be afraid to roll in more VTC, and then add some treble back in. The VTC is really musical in that way to me. You can get a lot of different timbres using the two in tandem.
