Seriously though, especially if you're a floating right hand player, having a thumb rest along the full range of the bass os nice. Kills 2 birds with one string. I keep it muted and it helps give me stability on the E string.
This is an early 90’s 4 String NYC. I purchased it used in 1993 with this thumb rest already installed.
Roger just recently modified it to align with the pickups and softened the edges. I actually find it very useful.

My Sadowsky B-Strings, in my considered opinion, seem to be for:
- changing lives
- giving me ammo to wade into ‘35” and up is objectively better because I say so’ threads, with the passion of a Pentecostal Preacher, advocating St Roger and his marvelous creations
- resting my thumb
- hitting Low Db’s on ballads, and sound like an entire back row of tubas/string basses
- really KNOWING, on a deep level, that I’m slightly more awesome than my four string brethren
But the again I hear guys on Squier 4-bangers and they make big round bassnotes that sound pretty good too …

And McCartney did most of his work on a lowly Hofner 500/1.
Setting the the groundwork (amongst others) for ‘big round and supportive’ bass notes, therefore St Paul and Saint Rog are both among the same continuum.
I bet Paul can rock a B. I’m betting he has jaw harp songs in him and can program beats on an MPC.
It’s not possible for me to feel animus/ill will towards any human who appreciates ‘Airplane’.
He’s also a master at two-chord pop.
I know it’s boorish but the gear is way down the line on a scale of importance. We’re just spoiled. He doesn’t care because he did it all before any of us. And why should he?
