Let's take as an example an Ultra Vintage P (eh, eh ... like the one I have on order ): you have a bass with alder body, maple neck, rosewood fingerboard, a P pickup in the right P location .... you pull the knob so the preamp is out and ...NOW TELL ME WHY IT SHOULDN'T NAIL THAT DAMNED SOUND?

So when you get your Ultra V P, go passive and A/B it with an early 60s Fender. Tell us what you find.

I play and love vintage Fenders. I bought my Sadowskys because they sound... like Sadowskys.
And they play pretty nice too...

I can't speak for the PBass models, but it is kind of strange. I play my Sadowsky Vintage ash/maple unplugged, and it sounds like a Sadowsky. I play it plugged in, with single coils and the preamp disengaged, and... it sounds like a Sadowsky. I play it with the preamp engaged, and... it sounds like a Sadowsky.

I feel that's a good thing. I love the Sadowsky sound. If you want vintage tone, buy a Fender. If you want very close to vintage tone in a 5 string... buy an Alleva

+1...A Sadowsky is not a Vintage sounding instrument. Vintage Inspired maybe but I have never had or played one that sounded like an old Fender...I agree on the Alleva to!

We have eliminated the neck plates on all Sadowsky NYC instruments, including Ultra Vintage basses. It allows us to use a large radius on the edge of the heel of the body and is more comfortable against the hand in the upper register. We have also contoured the rear of the treble cutaway on all instruments as well. These are permanent changes and I will not be taking custom orders for 4 strings with neck plates or without the cutaway contour.Roger

+1... even better! Sometimes tort can be a little much with an ash body with a lot of grain. However, on a very plain alder body with a classic sunburst type finish, forget about it... perfect (especially with the nice maple neck so the bass doesn't look too dark). IMO!

Definitely. Especially since a real tort guard will have more reds and/or browns in it, which will look even better.

Hey can any of you guys recommend me a good hardcase or flight case that my Sadowsky will fit into?

I bought a SKB hardcase that fits Fender's fine, but the downsized body of the Sadowsky moves around alot. I could probably just buy some foam to fill in that gaps, but if anyone has any advice that would be awesome.
