Sorry to hear that but now you have that beautiful singlecut to keep you happy. If or when I have to downsize this Sadowsky will probably be the last one to go.
Still not on board with the Warwick Sadowskys. I hear they’re great, but all it really did was encourage me to finally order a hand-built to my specs, talk to Roger on the phone, drain my bank account NYC. The wait is killing me but I’m stoked.
Anyone use Flats on their Modern?
What are your thoughts if you do?

I did and it was great for what it was! Had TI flats on mine for a few month and realy enjoyed the sound. Great for finger style: Full and punchy. It was a one trick pony however: finger style or bust. Playing with a pick sounded okayish at best in my opinion and slapping was out of the question.
However, at that time the modern was my only bass and I was getting into a rock cover band with some buddies. Had to ditch the flats for somthing with more zing (black label nickels at the moment). By now I've got a WL-5 with blue label steels that ticks all boxes for my rock band and I'm also contemplating putting flats back on my modern.
As much as I liked the sound of TIs on it, they were too supple for my taste. I'm intrigued by blue label flats, but the price is too steep for experimenting with a bass that only sees action at home in my case.
What I like about the moderns is that they are versatile and my fear would be that with flats it might lose that!
i used to make that assumption regardless of what exact model of a given bass was being talked about, and i'm pretty much a die-hard round wound fan...mostly stainless...
however...
every single time i've tried flats on a bass i've been very surprised at how well they've worked in the mix. yah, playing solo you miss a lot of that piano sound, but in a mix, it's solid as hell, generally doesn't miss anything with cut/definition, and doesn't seem to affect versatility much except for a narrow case of slap or maybe tap where you fairly specifically bring out the round wound ring, but even then, you'd probably be surprised how good it still sounds.
just make sure you get a good highly rated set, and enjoy the slides!

Nice! Dip switch #1 has been my personal preferred setting since I got my WL5.
For each pickup config, was the first sample clip without any of the DIP switches on? My favorite tone was the neck pickup before you showed the DIP switch, and as I tend to run my NYC JJ biased toward the neck pickup I think you just cured me of GAS for a Will Lee!
When the bass is in passive mode, is the battery bypassed?

As people were talking about flats, I’ve just bought a 5 string hybrid to use solely with flats, so my MV5 sticks with roundwounds. I have too say that for flats I do prefer the hybrid to the Jazz, although the Jazz still sounds great, there’s just something extra special about a precision pickup with flats.

Yes, when there’s no DIP picture it is without the mid boost.
and that’s another piece of my dilemma!
I bought a set of Sadowsky flats, which are not cheap, so once they go on, they’re never coming off! My goal had been to pick up a P5 and initially I thought about getting a Sire but I didn’t like the idea of stringing it with strings that are about 1/5 of the price! I’m still undecided…
to each their own, but i would NOT let a set of strings have that big of an impact on which bass i play or when... especially when flats might even be re-usable, but even if not, no way i'm worrying that much about strings to screw me over for playing my basses! it's all part of the journey... the price of progress/learning... nothing ventured nothing gained... whatever you wanna' call it.
