I’m loving the sound of these soapbar pickups in my WL-5, but came across an issue this morning: after only a little over a month and about 10 gigs, the coating is peeling off of them above the B string. These are the German-made versions I purchased from the Warwick/Sadowsky USA website; I plan on contacting them.

Ha! MetroExpress might be lower quality from the factory, but I'll wager mine's not. It's got Hipshot USA Ultralite tuners, rolled fingerboard edge, round fret ends, modified circuit, matching painted headstock, Dunlop straplocks, custom pickguard, and it's the lightest bass I've ever owned. The fret level is perfect and has a 20thou slope down from the 16th to the last fret. I tried it with Ultrajazz pickups (a la early Sadowskys) but the M.E pickups are better, punchier and clearer.

My RSD is completely stock and I love it. I have extensive experience with Japanese Metros and I have played a number of NYC Sadowsky’s, plus I have played two German Metroline Sadowsky’s. My bass has the cheaper preamp, but the tuners are great, it weighs under 9lbs and it came in a nice bag with straplocks. Most important of all, it sounds great. Mine is fretless and I like it better than a Pedulla I used to have.

Hello friends, How much different is the tone from the metroexpress vs metroline? I've got about a grand to spend. But, if the metroexpress is significantly different, I'll look at something else. Thank you all for any help you can provide. Have a wonderful day

Got a picture? The only locks I know that were installed on any Sadowsky basses from the factory are the Dunlops and now the Schallers on the German made stuff. Either way, they should be plentiful on the aftermarket... nothing proprietary about either one that I know of.

OH! Ok, now I understand... but wow... that's annoying!!

I've had Warwick basses in the past, but immediately swapped out their locks for the Dunlops, so I never knew this.

I guess either way, I hate being locked (no pun intended... ok maybe intended... lol) into proprietary crap like that, so I'd probably just switch'em out anyway.

Schaller locks came with all my Wicks (1983-1991), I also swapped them on my EBMMs, the JP Metroline came conveniently with Schallers - can only cope with one system.
The new locks on Wicks and supposedly Sadowsky are bigger then Schaller :woot: -

First thing I thought when I heard soft touch finish is that it's going to peel off. I don't know of any thin coating like those that would stand up to a constant finger / thumb contact.
