I remember it also that way. Of course is the NYC the most ambitious build quality - the question was what could be the common factor that makes it possible to call NYC, ME and Metroline Sadowsky products… and I think the preamp is this feature.

I’m going to go with the fact that Roger Sadowsky owns the company, and trademark, and his company, in one way or another, manufactures the basses in question. So the company is the common factor.
He said the Japanese made had different circuits, at least at first. The German models are similar but don't sound exactly the same. The NYC is solderless whereas the German and ME's are not which is another difference .
Are there any shorter folks that can report on the RSD Metroexpress 5-string with P/J or J/J pickups regarding size? I would appreciate it. I don't play jazz basses currently. Only precisions or a hofner. Do any shorter folks have any feelings about the 5-string/4 string length?
I feel like jazz basses are a foot longer than precision basses when I wear them.

I owned at least four different MIJ metro's. I love them.
I currently own two now.
Owned one chambered NYC with beautiful Brazilian Rosewood Fingerboard.
Personally prefer the non-chambered MIJ...JMO.

But Roger is already 72 years old... the years of the NY basses are numbered. And if someone continues his workshop, who knows what quality this instruments has.
The boutique instruments of all manufacturers are now so expensive that no one starts with them as a beginner. And if someone starts with Sire, Fender Player or MTD Kingston, their next more expensive bass will be from the same company.
The MEs are a perfect entry level into the Sadoswky world and absolutely necessary. This is the only way Sadowsky can capture the next generation.
You wonder if Roger is a businessman? Look at the VTC AddOn. Two pots, three capacitors and a dual knob for 120 EUR...

I'm of the opinion that the NYC's are way over priced for what they are but I find that true of most boutique level brands. I understand the concept that nothing is over priced if the market is willing to pay, which I just did for my recently received custom NYC.

If ME’s aren’t worthy of the Sadowsky name [brand], and NYC’s are overpriced, and German ML’s “aren't bad at all ”’but not up to your “bass snobbery needs” (your words, not mine), does that mean there is no Sadowsky instrument in production that currently meets your needs?

Great looking bass. I love the WL 5. I tried really hard to get Roger to build me one with a 1 7/8" nut width but he wouldn't. I've owned several NYC WL5's and just can't get comfortable on the narrower nut width. The bass in my profile pic is an NYC 5-21 with an alder body, Brazilian rosewood fingerboard, Olympic white with matching headstock. It's the best Sadowsky I've owned by far. I haven't decided yet whether my new NYC will replace it as my number one or not as there are a couple corrections to be made before I can say one way or the other. Either way, the white isn't going anywhere and neither is the new one.

I've said from the onset of the Warwick deal that I would have preferred to see the "entry-level" Sadowsky be more in the $1500-2000 range, with quality appropriate for that price point. Maybe that would dissuade some players from stepping up to a MetroLine or USA, but it seems very odd to me that a Chinese bass with such an inauspicious rollout would carry the Sadowsky name.I don't believe any of those that felt that way before have changed their views and are probably quite happy about the news. I was of the opinion then as I am now, I would rather the ME's made in China did not even exist. I would rather there only be the various German models and the NYC's but I might be a bit of a bass snob
yah, fwiw, i very strongly disagree. i personally don't feel that the Sadowsky name has to strictly be limited to the elite instruments. Roger has had significant enough input on all the product lines they all deserve his name.

The Japanese Metroexpress was pretty much identical in quality to the Japanese Metrolines, IMO, just fewer finishes and they did come with the VTC installed. The pots on the German basses feel a lot ‘looser’ when you turn them in comparison to the Japan Metrolines and Metrotroexpresses.

Yes, the MIJ ME's were much better than the current ME's, of course they were more than twice the price of the current one's. The $1800-2000 price point is what I wish they would've targeted with the current ME's.
Yes, the German Metro's have nearly the same profile as the NYC's. The MIJ's were chunkier. The necks on the German models are very nice in terms of feel and probably the only thing I prefer over the MIJ basses.
