Beautiful top. Looks like it is cut for a standard jazz body. By Modern 4 do you mean you will have soap bars in the modern position?
Something like that yes. I assume they draw those outlines on billets to give one an idea of what it would look like; the wood could be chosen for any one of Sadowsky’s different guitars or basses.

The preamp is a licensed one and not the original pre VTC NYC preamp. The pickups are now HC’s but Chinese.

I thought I would post here, because it’s a Sadowsky question…
What should come with a new Metroline bass?
I took delivery yesterday, and there is a pair of straplocks, an Allen key and a truss rod tool. And that’s it? No paperwork, or COA?
The gig bag is a Sadowsky, but also seems to be missing a strap. Not sure if the guys at the music store have misplaced these things or if I’m just expecting a little too much.
oh, the bass is very nice!

Same here with a bass delivered in April. And you are obviously enjoying your Metroline more than me. Not at all impressed, especially at this price point. Will be listing soon.
If it is a brand new German Metroline it should have come with two straps for the Portabag and a folder containing a picture of your actual bass, certificate and a USB drive. I would ask the music store.

This could have happened 2 weeks earlier, but my wife and I were in Italy on vacation- I knew it would be ready while we were away, as is my luck, but I got the email the 2nd night there (of a 2 week trip)
. Roger was fine with waiting for me to pay upon my return, and he gave us some restaurant recommendations as well.
So, to refresh-

NYC skyline inlay in pearl

Sonic blue finish (which imho is between sonic and daphne blue, and I love it)
Has the stacked jazz pickups in the 60’s position, with the coil cut switch.
Red tort and a parchment pickguard
I submitted my online order form 12/6/2021, paid my $500 deposit 12/25/21 (I swear Roger is always working
), and got the email saying it was ready 8/1/2023.
Fortunately I was working from home today (and tomorrow), and the FedEx guy got here just before noon, so I got some work done beforehand. Weather was pretty mild, so I didn’t feel the need to let it acclimate, plus I couldn’t wait any longer

Overall, I love this bass, very happy with how it came out. The neck is a bit darker than I’d have guessed, but it looks and feels great, love the slight angle to the flame. It’s a little thicker than I remembered, but the last Sadowsky I played was from 2010 (and it was like 2 years ago). It is NOT unplayable or uncomfortable (I’ve been playing the bass off and on all day
), but just has some meat to it, especially compared to some of my other basses. The fingerboard has some nice figuring/streaking going on, and the fretwork is excellent. The sonic blue is great, there were a few examples on the Sadowsky site, but it definitely looks better in person . And I’m super happy with the skyline inlay and the clay dots- they compliment each other well, and the inlay is not super gaudy or flashy.
No real complaints- the build quality is excellent, it balances well, feels great and sounds amazing. Not the biggest fan of the strings though, but I do like the blue wraps. We’ll see, I’ve got the rest of my life to figure out what strings work best. And the Portabag is great, although I remember it being bigger. And it’s definitely brand new- I’ve got it airing out in the basement right now for the chemically smell (but I’m kinda’ sensitive to that, so…
Got a gig Saturday night, we’ll see if I’m brave enough to bring my newest bass. It’ll definitely work, but I’m a chicken and like to use gear I’m super familiar with. I had my F Bass BN5 for 3 years before I started using it regularly (and it’s also a killer bass).

I remember when I got mine I thought that stuff was missing too. Turns out it was in the bag somewhere not easily noticeable. Little folder with certificate, USB drive and other little nick-nacks. Make sure you give the case and all the pockets a thorough once-over…
I bought this Japanese jazz 5 from a fellow TBer about a month ago and I finally got a change to play it tonight with the band and Oh My goodness!!! These Japanese Sadowskys just sound so amazing!! I also have a MIJ Modern 5 and they just blow the Germans out of the water, I know, I have owned 5 MIGs. I have yet to own a NYC, maybe one day.
Yes. Japanese Metrolines > German Metrolines. Better hardware, better preamps, truer to the original. I wish the change to Warwick had never happened. (I realize this may be an unpopular opinion, but I don't care.) I'm glad I got a couple of Japan-made models before the unfortunate change happened. It's a shame and overall detracts from the brand, IMO. I've been a Sadowsky enthusiast for 20 years, but now find myself less willing to spend the money going forward as a result of this experience.

I agree! There is something about the wood and the tone and resonance. Like I mentioned before, I will give up weight for tone anyday
