Magical day today in LIC. Got to meet the man and get a workshop tour while placing an order for a Will Lee 4-string. For nostalgic New Yorkers the shop is in the old Goodman’s Egg Noodle factory. The only choice for Beef Stroganoff on ‘70s dinner menus.
I even chose the fretboard wood. Nice figure. What a wood vault. Now for The Wait.

It ain’t made yet.
Admittedly I didn’t take a pic of the board. It’s Amazon Rosewood. Saw a couple dozen pieces. I chose one with a distinctive very nice figure. Neck is to be Roasted Flame Maple, Thin Matte Nitro finish. Body to be Alder, Custom Satin Black, matching headstock. I specified only two fretboard dots at the 12th fret. Sterile otherwise. Side dots are large 1/4” for my aged eyes.
4-string 22 fret Will Lee Model. Vintage Tone Control, Chambered.
I’ve had a MetroLine Will Lee RW4 for a year now. Great bass. Most versatile I have. That was the gateway to ordering an NYC Sadowsky while the getting is good.

I've recently acquired my first 2 Sadowskys. Today, I upgraded the Metro Express w/ a VTC retrofit kit. I'm enjoying the single coils tone & the passive tone control takes her to the next level!

My Metro Express"s first outing.....
I've added the VTC to my Metro Express & I agree that it's a big improvement. I also wanted to give my RSD headstock a face lift, so I removed the old logo & replaced with a Sadowsky water slide followed by a few coats of Minwax satin lacquer. Glad to see they worked that detail out for the 2023 models! The string tree drove me crazy falling down as you remove the strings. I noticed the older US Sadowskys incorporated springs around the two screws to apply tension hold up the string tree bar. A couple of ink pen springs did the trick
Just to follow up on my NBD post from earlier. The best bass I've ever owned is the NYC in my profile. It's too soon to say on the new one but I'd say my initial impression is that it's likely in the top 2 basses I've ever owned. Yep, it's really good.

Two beautiful basses, each in a special way. The Metro Express with the classic look and the M/J with this breathtaking top. Can you post a picture that shows the whole bass? Which wood was used for this?

For MetroLine owners like myself who are dissatisfied with the stock tuners, I replaced mine with a set of Roger’s recommendation for Hipshot Ultralites. They hold their tune very well, unlike the the OEM tuning pegs.

Roger has an impressive wood library. Some pieces he's had for decades.
It must be wonderful to see this place, walk around and talk about the essence of Sadowsky…
To visit NYC and the Sadowsky shop should be one of my goals in the next few years
