Was your problem with the stock tuners on the MetroLine that they didn’t stay in tune? I had read something about that.
I have a MetroLine coming today from FretNation, it’s a 2023 model, Vintage 21 fret P/J in Alder/Morado. I’ll find out if they addressed that issue.
My last Metro was my first Sadowsky back in 2009, same combo, but the Hybrid with a P body. Loved everything but the weight.
I think this new one should be fine as my future #2 bass. I currently have my dream NYC bass being build, completion date around July/August of ‘24.
I have never had any issues with the tuning machines on my two Japan metrolines (an RW4 and a Will Lee4). Does anyone know if these are Hipshots or have I just been lucky?
My Japanese Metros have Hipshots. All the tuning machine discussions here lately have been about the German Metrolines, which have tuning machines made by Warwick.
Any chance you can share a link for the folks that can't follow along on their end? I didn't see any 5 string bridges with string spacing listed on there site.

I swapped the German tuners on my 2021 ltd edition metroline, not because they wouldn't stay in tune, but because they were difficult to get in tune. Small movements did nothing, then it jumped up or down in pitch. USA Hipshot ultralights fixed the problem.
This almost sound like the strings are hanging up in the nut. Typically the easy fix is a small bit of graphite or the nut might need to be a bit wider. Just my 2 cents, for what that's worth these day. But you did fix it with a change of tuners, so I'm probably off base.

More likely strings catching in the string retainer. Result can be what the OP described, or strings jumping slightly out of tune later. It happens on a lot of basses, including my NYC Sadowsky, especially on strings with silks.
Solution is to press down to release the snag, tune, repeat, and eventually no problem.
The issues with the Warwick-made Sadowsky tuners have been discussed fairly in depth before in this thread - it’s the tuners. I’ve experienced it firsthand and solved it on a German Metroline with a swap to USA Hipshot Ultralites.
I love the MJ5 Metro bass I have and love what Warwick has done with the Metroline series. But, the tuners need some work. It's inconsistent though, with many experiencing anything from sloppy, to hard-to-turn, to won't hold tune, to those that don't experience any problems whatsoever.

Yes, one screw is slightly off the german screw hole, but if you're careful you'll get it in ok. I kept the original ferrules in.
My Metroline P/J vintage showed up yesterday, in tune from Fret Nation all the way from California. Today I put a set of Sadowsky Blue Label Flats on it and it feels and sounds great. I’m not seeing any major problems with the Warwick made tuners. Maybe a little tight feeling under tension when raising pitch?
I did swap out the S locks for Dunlop StrapLoks (on all of my basses and straps). Other than that it seems great for the price point.

Back in the club with this German MetroLine 24 Vintage I found used. I've owned many Japanese-made Metros over the years, this is as well-made as the best of them. The fretwork is impeccable and the upper register access is nice.
