I never had a problem with the plastic cover on my 5 or 6 MIJs, or the one NYC Sadowsky that I owned.

They were all wooden screws, but how many times do u have to access the cavity? Maybe once a year?
A stripped hole would only require a wooden toothpick and a little wood glue to repair.

IMHO, I thought that Dan @ Lakland had a great design with the machine screws and machine screw inserts for his backplate.

Yeah, the cheap black plastic clip on cover is a disappointing Warwick carryover. It’s my biggest complaint about the German builds. Devon Smullen has the best execution in my opinion with his snap on wooden magnetic held enclosures.

When they started using the pop up battery compartments in the early 2000’s, they stopped doing the brass inserts for the control cavity, which while you didn’t have to get in there as much since the 9v was separate, still kinda’ irked me… the mid control dip switches are in there so you still might go in there… DEFINITELY a first world problem

But no problem with static build up then? … if I brush my body across the cover I get an unfortunate cracking noise… we were able to replicate it at the luthier so it’s not just me. Warwick kindly sent a replacement plastic cover but it happens with either…

I’ve never had any static issues with any plastic control cavity cover, and nothing so far with this new instrument. The inside of the plastic cover has a conductive surface which is making contact with the shielded surface in the cavity, I don’t know if a static charge on the outside of the plastic cover could make an audible impact inside the shield, I would be surprised if it did.

The control cover is not making contact with ground. You should see a small piece of copper tape on the ledge attached to the body. You may have to build that up a bit.

I have already attempted to do that, using conductive paint and copper tape. It certainly could be cause but after receiving a replacement cover from Warwick and the problem not going away, I thought I’d share and see what response I got. I’ll look at it again.

Correct. I sent Chandler the tort guard that came with the bass and they made me a custom one that is exact in 10 days!!

Were the mods of PUP's and preamp a big improvement over the OEM's? I just received a new ME JJ5/21 and am wondering what I'm missing, given the excellent sound/playability it has right out of the box.

I do understand the aesthetics - that's a great looking black on black instrument for sure!

I agree. It sounded great as a stock instrument. However, I’m a Nordstrand Artist so I just upgraded the pups and pre to my liking. Also, I’m a sucker for Black Hardware!

An update on my ill fitting rear cavity cover on my German MetroLine P/J.
I contacted Jason at Fret Nation and he had Warwick Distribution USA send me a new cover and surround mount.
Took two business days. I installed it and it’s much tighter.

Kudos to Jason. Fret Nation and Warwick USA.

Even so, I’d rather have the brass threaded screws for mounting the cover that my NYCs and Japanese Metros have.
