Thanks Roger. You just saved me a bunch of searching. :)

Yeah, I know they're custom made for you. I was referring to the manufacturer that does them for you, and the standard models of theirs your pickups are "based on" (if that's a fair statement at least). The SC's are made by a different vendor than the HC's, correct? Maybe that's what I'm recalling, and just getting confused to think the diffs extended also to 4 vs 5 string models.

Don't be confused:
4 & 5 string humcancelling J=same design and vendor
4 & 5 string single coil J=same design and vendor
4 & 5 string soaps = same design and vendor
Nordies = Nordies
PJ 4 and 5 string = different vendors (gotcha!)

Thanks again Roger. That's it. My latest GAS was (and still is!!) for the new Metro PJ5, so that's what it was.

Just to complete the matrix, HC vs SC, same vendor?

This is fascinating, but would anyone (Roger?) care to answer my original question?:):

I have recently acquired an ash/maple Standard 5 and I'm surprised to find that it sounds quite different from my ash/maple Standard 4. I'm not quite sure how to explain the difference. The lows on the 5 are more throaty and the highs seem to sing out a bit more. The open E is also slightly more aggressive than on the 4. I'm tempted to say that the five sounds more "alive" than the 4 (which sounds slightly more mellow) - it's kind of like the difference between Chaka Khan and Sade. At this point, I'm not favouring one bass over the other, I'm just curious as to why there might be such a difference. Is it simply a matter of 5 vs 4, or perhaps the presence of the string tree on the headstock of the 5? I've never before owned a 4 and 5 of the "same bass" so any insight on your parts would be helpful. Thanks, guys.

Thanks, Roger. Would you say there is a "Standard 5 sound" vs a "Standard 4 sound" or is there a great degree of variance from bass to bass regardless. I really love the sound of both my 4 and 5. I'm just wondering if the next 5 I order from you guys is more likely to sound like my current 5 or my 4.
