The P pickup in my Lull P5 was configured like that. I did notice a tonal difference on the A string. I could have flipped the pickup, but I flipped the Lull once I got my Sadowsky P5.
Nothing against the Lull, it was a high quality bass, but the Sadowsky is a better fit for me for a few reasons.
I play fivers, but my 2¢ might still apply. I've been through almost a dozen different sets of flats and tapes. My favorites for my Sadowsky NYC P5 are TI Jazz and Sadowsky Blue Labels*. Of course I use flats for warmth compared to rounds, but I don't want them to sound dull or dead. I suppose I want my flats to sound a notch or two warmer than groundwounds/half-rounds, which are a notch or two warmer than rounds.
*Those weren't the only two sets I liked, but were those I liked best.
Well, after many years of experiencing Sadowsky’s (and other brands), I’m super impressed with these late 90s pieces I have.
I’ll give Kudos to the White Mike Lull DA5 in the photo too. 35” scale, Ash / Maple, Nordstrand Pickups and Aguilar OBP-1, I never would glanced this one over after man years Alder / Rosewood (many times Brazilian).
Honestly, I haven’t been a fan Ash / Maple for a while until I experienced these 3 basses!
Just strung a fresh set of 40 to 120 Black Diamond strings on the 1997 NYC 5 today, wow! Don’t need the VTC…I just want to play it!
The 1996 NYC 4…forget about it!
These are golden era Sadowsky’s!

The Sunburst 5 has a 19mm bridge with a 1 and 7/8” nut width.
My Mike Lull DA5 has an 18mm bridge (adjustable) and the Quilt top 4 is 19mm bridge (adjustable)
You sure that Gotoh bridge is 19mm? That's a J510SJ and that bridge is 18mm for sure.
The measurement is done between saddle to saddle. Matter of fact, groove to groove.
Is this the universal standard for every bridge from every manufacturer?
I know some brands of bridges that deviate.
If I compare my Mike Lull to the Sadowsky, theres a difference. This Mike Lull has less space with all saddles centered. I’m comparing Hipshot bridge on a bass built in 2023 to Gotoh bridge from a bass built in 1997.
If that's a J510 from Gotoh, and I'm pretty sure it is, then it's 18mm.
The only Gotoh 5 string bridge with 19mm actually is the S510B-5, which is a different design.
It may be a previous version of the J510-SJ, it has different saddle slots then your cut sheet
Even measuring to the grooves I’m measuring 3/4”.
Fodera claims their 5 string bridges are 19mm but they measure in at 20mm
There's no such thing. All the J510 series are 18mm since the beginning.
The only exception is the S510

I've been so satisfied with this bass that I've barely logged into TB since August. Crowning moment was at a gig in September at a larger venue near me, and a good friend of mine who's also a bass player was out in the crowd. I had just gotten a new bass amp (Fender Super Bassman 300) because I managed to blow up my Mesa WD800 somehow, and it was my first gig through it with the MJ5. The Super Bassman was going into my Barefaced 6x10 stack and I was only using a little compression in front, since I get a bit aggressive when playing live.Blacked out my Metroline MJ5 last night - this has become my go to live bass for my hard rock cover band. 8lbs feels great on my back for 3 hours, and it sounds amazing. Plus, here's a bonus live shot with chrome hardware from a week and a half ago at a benefit we played at.
At the end of the night, my friend told me the bass tone was like a sledgehammer and one of the best sounds he ever heard. Which was great to hear since the monitoring situation on stage was a mess and we were all just holding on for dear life.
I love this MJ5 - to the point that I'd rather use a capo than swap basses for a couple songs that are in C standard (I know I can transpose, but too many low C's are needed so this is easier). Coming from a diehard 4 string Spector guy, it's really been life changing.
That is gorgeous!!! 2 chickens and listening to a grade school bands/orchestras playing "Greensleeves" for 45 minutes should do it!

I saw that on Reverb for $700 with the Will Lee pre. Insane catch. Enjoy that bass.
All my GAS has subsided. These two are working fine as my #1 ( the japan modern) and my #2. The P/J has turned out to be one of the best series 1’s I’ve ever come across. I put the full plate VTC in it, and its the T!T$. I usually flip these, but having a hard time lettin this one go.
