The Modern is coming from Thomann and it has a koa top with an ebony fingerboard. It's some kind of limited edition model with a chambered body, so a little more fancy than a standard Metro.

I don't know where the seller came up with that price but you can get a new German one for even less at Thomann (even factoring in the shipping). If you don't mind a B stock they have one for $2299 US.
Are the MIJ better than German? Something I've wondered about. I guess I'm about to find out.

After you posted the specs of the incoming German model, I see how that would be an unfair comparison anyway.
I haven't played them back to back, but I have played both, and I don't remember feeling like the German made ones were missing anything at all, and I do like some of the features and options they've brought to the table for sure. The only "downside" to me is the darn strap locks... I hate Schallers, but that's not a decision making factor, either. lol.

My Lull experience: 1) I got to play one at Bass Central, a 5 string Jazz. I remember the B string was nothing special. 2) Years ago I was listening to the house band on a cruise ship and the bass sounded really good. Turns out is was a Lull, I forget the model. The bassist let me try it unplugged and told me he got it from Atlanta Bass Gallery.
I’ve never seen one here in Ottawa unfortunately but that’s par for the course!
ABG, I remember it well! I've owned both the M as well as the V Lull models, bonded more with the V models. At least on mine (ash/maple, singles, no fancy woods) the B string was great... but... long story short, my older Sadowsky V5 (which I still have, 2004 I believe) same config, was/is a lot better, so I sold the Lull. Mike was very definitely capable of creating some DARN fine stuff, but I just bonded a lot more with Roger's work, so I'm staying with that.
My Sadowskys are my main players by far these days. Mostly my SP/SJ 5/24 custom NYC and VJ5/24 custom NYC. But I still have that older VJ5 I still love and play, and a Japanese MetroExpress that has some HC's in it that were brand new at the time (had to have the body routed for a bit more depth). I have other stuff I play pretty frequently, but Roger's work pretty much rules the roost in my case.
I’ve only owned one Lull but the it was definitely a great bass:
I played it for a while as my #1 but ended up having to sell it as the neck was so large it was causing me physical injury every time I played anything other than root notes on it. One day I’ll have another Bird but this time it’ll be from Brian at LowEnd (at the time Mike Lull wasn’t interested in the build ideas I had for a custom Bird but Brian is open to them).

It’s also got me wondering how a Sadowsky J or P body would look in some of those colors, particularly Pelham Blue.
I’m planning on trying to shoehorn my two band Sadowsky JB Preamp into a micro bass that does not have a control plate. I’m wondering if I’m going to need to do anything additional to the wiring in order to prevent hum? When it was in my jazz bass, I had to ground the control plate to quiet things down.

that sounds like a lot of work that may not be necessary if you just buy one of their outboard/pedal versions.
Sure, that would be easy. The thing is,I have a nice pair of jazz bass pick ups and this preamp sitting around doing nothing, which was the reason I gave to my wife for for getting the micro bass to do projects on. Buying the external preamp is not an option… Maybe I can find a DIY project to incorporate the onboard preamp into an outboard pedal? That would be very cool if possible.
Anyone have a clue when the MetroExpress Ultra Vintage P will be available in the states? I plan to make it my entry into Sadowskyville!
I seem to recall Jason from FretNation saying in a Facebook post that they should be available in the US sometime this summer to early fall.
As of a couple of days ago that first 5-string ME Ultra Vintage P was on Reverb for sale. Made me really sad to find out that for right now they’re only being shipped with a 1 7/8” nut width, or I’d already have it.
