Club Sadowsky!!!

I recently picked up my first chambered/graphited NYC 5 here on TB. It is the trans-white standard that has been making the rounds. It is definitely a slightly different vibe than the 5 or 6 solid body Sadowskys I've had, and the G is very even which is probably due to the graphite (though I also have a metro 4 that is impeccable in that dangerous zone). Its a really nice bass, I'm playing around with strings to see what it likes best, the chambered thing really changes the response so my usual playbook doesn't quite apply.

Could also just be the individuality of the bass, they are all a little different, but sure seems like its the chambering that I'm feeling and hearing. Its under 8lbs and balances perfectly, pretty amazing.

Ahh, I believe you have mine and Blake's and Greg's old bass (correct me if I'm wrong). Its a good one!

I had my MV5 in the studio for first time over the weekend. All I can say is wow! I used it for all of the tracks on our up coming CD. At this point we have only completed the bed tracks, but it sounds fantastic!

I can't wait to hear the finished product later this year.
I tried one of my other basses for a track where I had a specific tone in mind, and the first thing I heard from the control room was "what happened to the bass?" I immediately switched back to my Sad and all was well again.

I've been playing this bass for over a year now and never ceases to amaze me.

Makes me think I need an MV4 of some kind to accompany my fiver... Hummm?

Delivery estimates are shorter if I already have a body in the works that fits the requirements of the order. This is where we quote 4-5 months. If I don't, orders should still not be longer than 6 months, unless there is a production problem where I have to start over with a different neck or body at some point in the process. Again, this is just a generalization.

I have a NYC 24F5 on order - only since late in June, so it's gonna be a while - dang! Anyway, I did a lot of research last night on the topic of Sad Soaps vs. Nordy Big Singles and I forgot the name of the member that did a very nice comparison between the two - and I can't seem to find that post again. Anyway, the decision at the end of the test was to stick with the Sad Soaps. Anybody else have input on this topic or had the chance to do an A/B on these pups? I'm only researching because I've been diggin' my passive J bass with Barts lately, and I figured the Nordys would sound more J-bassy. My main bass for the last 19 years has been a Tobias Killer B5 (pre-Gibson) and I've tried many other 5s since then, but none have been keepers. I always wanted to get a Sadowsky, so here I am!

With respect to sitting in the recording mix, in my opinion, the nordies do one thing: big, fat, fundamental fur. So naturally, they can be very prominent in the mix.

While the soapbar can’t do the BFFF quite as capably as the Nordstrands, they sit beautifully in the mix and are MUCH more versatile tone-wise. In fact, I was listening to several recordings in which I used one of your soapbar equipped basses and I marveled at the very wide range of tones that instrument is capable of. All with a nice growly tone. If it’s a fretless we’re talking about, forget about it – they MUST be soapbars.

Also remember, if we’re talking about recording, the nordies are a bit noisier than your average pickup. The soapbars are extremely quiet.

Bottom line - I think that the nordies stand out with more fundamental than the soaps, but that single advantage doesn’t outweigh the benefits of the soaps.

Right, I have a Sadowsky on the way. I'm psyched to get it. I figured I'd be set with that bass for a long time. After seeing that, I want a new one. Damn you, and here i thought I would be set! Whoever owns that bass did not do me a favour =(

Anyone here been down the dark road of having two Sadowsky's on simultaneous order, or ordering a second before they received the first?
