Now I want an alder/Brazilian Sadowsky in my collection.
Used the PJ5 tonight at rehearsal and it killed. I love being able to toggle between 50/50 P/J to 100 P pickup. Between that and the VTC, you can get almost any sound you need. Favoring the bridge slightly gets you into J bass burp territory too. Really good stuff.
Played finger style, that alder/brazilian just growls in the mix! Really, really satisfying.

Has any any of you ever installed Sadowsky pickups and electronics in a fender P-bass?
I'm thinking about putting together a "poor man's" Sadowsky.
The plan is to find a second hand P-bass that plays/feels and sounds nice and then upgrade it with a Sadowsky P/J set and electronics.
What do you think, would that work out ok?

I installed Sadowsky singles on my '69 and '73 jazzes. Coupled with Sad DI works great for me.
For sure can install preamp into your bass, but you can use the stompbox with any other instrument.

Hi, with installing pickups plus electronics I meant pickups plus preamp, so that was already the plan.

I thought about the stomp box but I like it better to be able to tweak some knobs on the bass than to have to get down to the floor.
Could you please tell me in what way the sound of your basses changed because people talk a lot about different woods and the effect they have on your sound but I only once changed pickups on a bass (went from bartolini's to seymour duncans on a Lakland 5594) and that made the biggest difference ever.

sound haven't changed at all as they supposed to be fender copies. Or it's propably me, but i'm not deaf)))

I did this in two intruments. One was a fender Geddy Lee and the other one was a Bacchus P/J.
I already own a Sad NYC as a main instrument and whenever I would switch from my Sadowsky to my other basses during a show or rehearsal. I would loose the bass in the mix. So I decided to change the pickup in both basses for Sad pickups and buy the Sad stomp box.
The result was less then satisfying. I still don't get why but the Fender and Bacchus sounded the same, just louder with the pre on. In the end I bought an other Sadowsky.

If you found a second-hand P-bass that has good tone and playability, then adding the Sadowsky electronics should work out just fine. I haven't done that myself, but the Sadowsky preamp is high quality and powerful, and can only help... those who insist on passive electronics excepted, of course.
I always use a Sadowsky outboard DI. When I don't play a Sadowsky J or PJ, I normally use Fender P's, and then always use the DI with preamp engaged. I just turn off the preamp on the DI when using my Sadowsky basses.
I like the tone I get with the Sadowsky pre with the P. I'm not sure I would see much advantage in changing out the pickup however, for my purposes.

Told ya, Vic. Next time Im down state, Im gonna put the 500k pot in it. Id also like to try a Nordstrand pj set in it for kicks. Sounds so good already prolly just a waste of time and effort, though. LOL
Also, would love to get a gold guard for it like the white 5er we've been talking about. Anyone know who will make me such a thing?

Ive had Sadowsky's with different maker pickups and they are still sound like a Sadowsky. Also, Id get the Di box. That way you wont alter your P bass and ruin its resale

Cool, yeah, I'll have to see on this one. I actually ordered a few of the pots, so it's an option, but we'll see. And yeah, I do like especially the NP5 better than the previous P5.
Here's a few early carpet shots. Dang, this thing is KEEEELAH!!! It's also got some cool mild flaming in the neck. It plays like buttah and the usual "dead zone" is minimal to non-existent. It's 8.8 pounds, and the tone is awesome. This is MOSDEF one of the best Metros I've ever played or heard. MOSDEF! I just got it today on approval, but it's so damn good I've already pulled the plastic off the guard. Done deal.
