I love flats on my PJ. Go ahead and order a set; Sadowsky flats are so good that you can even slap them. They have a very strong fundamental tone, very nice feel and tension and they break in nicely after a month or two.

Yes and its very cool.. I got the sadowsky flats..I currently have rounds on my PJ5 for a project that im doing but the sadowsky flats are sweet..

My Ultra Vintage P is still strunged with the Sadowsky flats it came with. I have also a set of blue nickel rounds that I'm burning to try but everytime I am to the point of changing strings, I pluck those flats and I think "well, I'll try the blues a little later..."
I put Sad flats on my bass in July. I haven't gigged due to a hand injury. But, in rehearsing, I really like the tone and feel of them. Glad I did the change.
I'm not much for putting fancy wood tops on instruments patterned this closely after J Basses. But MAN, are those both beautiful.
Those fancy tops work much better on the standard models without guards and without 'bursts', etc. The fancy tops with bursts and guards are just a strange combination of vintage and, well, I don't know what. They just don't make sense to me aesthetically (pure IMO there).
These two.. whew..... they just work. Congratulations on those!

Just not my thing. Pure IMO. Never did dig 'em. Of course, they all sound the same, so if you like pink paint or AAAAA 59 burst (that even sounds strange
), there's a look for every possible taste! There really is something 'strange' looking (to me, of course) about a tort guard (which is busy to begin with) over a very busy top like quilted maple IMO. However, viva le difference!

Hey, on a separate note, Burk had his ash/maple/singles over the other evening, and he had the Marcus Miller DR's on there (Fat Beams, or whatever they are called). I had never heard those strings or played them. NICE! I didn't have Hi Beams on mine to do a direct A/B (I'm still using the Blue Label Steels on there), but it sounded like the Hi Beams + more balls to me. Really nice sounding strings on that bass spec... fat but smooth, with that nice Hi Beam treble presence but a bit more wump.
Have you tried those? I forgot.

I have a set, but haven't yet put them on. I'm going to, tho... just haven't decided which bass, and currently, none of my Sadowskys need strings.
