Beautiful bass! Look like all of you guys like the lined fretless. I guess being an upright player and having learned on an unlined Fender Jazz Special back 25 years ago, I find the lined fingerboard very confusing. I'm always tempted to play behind the line as if it were a fret. Wow, that bass is beautiful.
Actually it is a Standard 4 Fretless.....
What can I say about it....the best fretless I've ever played! It is awesome to have a "Jazz" style bass with a ebony fretboard. Another feature I glad I did was to have the PU's put into the 70's location, give me a bit more mid growl!

That's one of the tones I can get from this PJ. If you are in front of my amp you can feel like crashing against a brick wall.

The Metros are all about what sells in greatest numbers. The straight up P basses just don't sell nearly as much as the PJ's, so there's no business case for them.I forgot to look at the NYC series, sorry

yeah, that's the wall outside my kitchen. Maybe I should give that name to my bass: 'Brick Wall' or 'Brick' ...or 'Wally'; nah, I like NYCPJ4, kinda military spec

I agree. My fretless (gone now, jazz ensemble is defunct) was a nice mid-90's MIJ Fender Jazz with unlined board and sidemarkers. I found that fretless quite easy to play. I think the lined fretboards are confusing also. YMMV

I personally prefer a blank board, with "side dots where the frets would be, at 3/5/7/9/etc."
My G&L is like this.
My Jaco had lines everywhere, and dots, making it kinda hard to get "a quick reference glance." Visually over-populated like that, I find.
