I called on it 6 mos. ago, it was advertised as an NYC then. Agree, probably a typo.
I stand corrected, but at least since this one is a passive bass, no blocks, no binding, and a simpler single pickup design, it's still impossible it could be a metro at that price. My active Metro PJ5 was less expensive than this.
FWIW, here's another clip of the new UV70. I tossed on a set of Cleartone strings, and I'm really happy with the sound...just a bit happier in the mids - perfect for fingerstyle, but not over-the-top for slap stuff. Anyway. Trio hit, ash/maple metro UV70, new strings, blend centered, VTC close-to-center, bass @ ~ 3/10, treble @ ~ 2/10. Genz Benz Shuttle 9.0, all centered except for pre-gain @ 2 o'clock. Aguilar GS112, tweeter @ ~ 10 o'clock.

I've only had one gig thus far where the bass is really in its element...nice fat R&B-ish grooves...but I'm still digging it on the small group stuff. Still experimenting with strings, too. I dug the Sad Blues, dug the Sad Blacks a bit more, and am really liking the Cleartones.

Both of those places tend to keep things up on the website for ages after they've sold it. That blue Metro on there has been bought here on Talkbass several times already.
Well, it's similar but not quite the same thing...
It's a Metro P while mine is a NYC. That means J neck vs P neck on mine and at least one and half lbs. more.
Not to mention the lovely nitro finish on the body of mine (well that's not stock on NYC basses anyway) ....
Nonetheless if I hadn't that great NYC of mine I'd jump on that Metro in a heartbeat...

IIRC, it was some time in 2003. I think early 2003. I think mine is one of the last ones that was not chambered, but it does have the thicker headstock. Mine is #3874, FWIW.
Someone here should be able to say more definitively though.

I had a NYC 5 JJ I got the week of thanksgiving in '03. It didnt have vtc but had the thicker headstock. Also, had the toggle switch for active/passive. It weighed 8.25lbs but I cant remember if it was chambered or not. Im gonna say yes. I think the # was 3975?

I can't say for certain as we phased in chambered bodies over a couple of years beginning in 03 and 04. We started with the alder bodies. When I realized how good they were sounding, we started to chamber all of our bodies. But I had a fair number of bodies in inventory that took us a while to use up.

The biggest reason I sold my NYC JJ was because of the chambered body, I thought it sounded great at times like when slapping, and I dug the light weight benefits. Most of the time though I didn't dig the hollow character, not really what I want in a jazz bass. But then again, here I am getting ready to order another NYC JJ 5, this time a solid body. Just can't get over how amazing a Sadowsky bass is!
