The Japanese bass is a Sadowsky TYO. The koa bass is an NYC.
We have separate serial number series.

Is Sadowsky TYO the same as Sadowsky Tokyo? What it replace by Metro? I've seen the Tokyo models before but I had no Idea they were making all these weird combo with matching headstock and all.

Also, you said it was photoshoped in an earlier post. Explain please???????????????

The TYO line is our Japanese custom shop.
The Tokyo line became the Metro Line in 2003.
So the current 3 lines are:
Sadowsky NYC
Sadowsky TYO (for sale in Japan only)
Sadowsky Metro

Regarding the image I referred to as photoshopped---I did not realize that was a TYO. I thought someone was playing with an NYC photo.

Funny, I've never heard of a "TYO" Sadowsky before. Is there a Japanese custom shop because the Metros are already being made there, or because there is such a high demand for custom Sadowskys in Japan?

Beautiful book-matching of the quilt. The quilt on the '07 Lakland Skyline 55-02 (that I traded in for my Metro RV5PJ) was just slapped on. Nothing like that quality (but it was 1/3 the price of a NYC). That color (along with cherryburst) would be near the top of my list for a standard (no pickguard) 5-string.

You must be getting antsy to get your hands on it. I know I would.

I know my sadowsky Alder/Maple is super fat and warm in the mix. I do have another bass with the ash/morado combo, but not PJ pickups. The ash has a nice aggressive cut with the morado mellowing it out just a bit.

Is your question in relationship to 5 strings only?

I own two Sadowsky Ash/Rosewood combi. One is Madagascar and the other one is Braz. They are both 4 string JJ

Well, I'm looking at a PJ5 application, but would be interested in other opinions/setups, especially if you have or have played both alder/rw and ash/rw.

Another shoutout for the Sadowsky shopping experience...they have the e-commerce thing humming along quite nicely. And they know how to grab the [DEL]sucker[/DEL] cat with an impulsive mouse finger too. Along with the pearl guard I got a bridge wrench, spokewheel rod, and a new t-shirt and hat. Instant communication, quick processing & shipping...bada boom.

I also have to say...I am just loving this bass. I installed some Cleartone strings, which I know may be considered blasphemy, but I really love 'em. Nice bump in the mids without compromising the slap tone in the slightest. This thing has punch and focus, along with the Sadowsky sheen, but has just the right amount of grind, snarl, and fatness. Remember Supreme Court Justice Stewart's take on obscenity? ("I know it when I see it.") Well, I can't say I could fully quantify the sound I was after, but having heard this bass, I can say that this is it. :D

More pics tomorrow, and I'll be grateful in advance for opinions on the white vs. pearl white guard.

I don't think ANYONE here would think that... seriously. I know you're kinda' kidding but as popular as the blues/blacks are with various folks here, there's TONS of people (including myself and also yourself) who are also very happy with other strings. No worries. It's your bass. Make it work the best for you. :)
