Club Sadowsky!!!

Speaking of Sadowsky Flats, I'd been thinking of some for my 2006 MV4. I absolutely LOVE this bass as it was, whether I had blues (most of the time) or black-label strings on it.

I'd been thinking of a more "old school" tone in my head, so I ordered some flats.

I also ordered and installed a Metro Hipshot D-Tuner.

Perhaps I did too much at once? Three main concerns:

a. I know they're "flats", but the E is definitely, noticeably (to me) less-lively than the other three strings. Yes, the tuning to D part works okay, but it's fairly dead, too.

b. Perhaps the intonation needs to be adjusted, because when the E is tuned correctly, fretted notes like the G and A are flat. They've always been right on with every set of roundwounds I've ever had on it.

c. I wonder if "problem a." is related to adding the D-Tuner and a different "mass" or whatever on that string as a result of a different contact point(s) to the headstock?



I'm already thinking of taking the D-tuner off and putting the old one on to see if the E is more "lively" and matches the other three strings.



I've also heard that flats need time to break in. However, I hear and feel a noticeable difference in the feel and output of the E vs. the other three strings and can't help but wonder if it's the new tuner?

Any thoughts? Thanks, everyone!

The two sets I currently have have nice balance and feel across all four strings, what I noticed in the first one I used is that the D on the A string was slightly flat when the string was in tune. Nothing the ear can hear, but I could see it on some tuners (others showed the note as correctly in tune).

I always double check my tuning with the open string and the 5th fret. (Provided the bass is already adjusted/intonated.)

I've also found that I like the tone after the strings have been used for 2-3 months.

Thanks Rob, you're right, Kevin just emailed me back.

As much as I want blocks and binding, I know what I like, and I like the 12" radius.

Soo I think I'm just going to man up and order a NYC. It will have a 12" Radius and a Full Size body. The rest of the specs I have to think about and decide.

I've gone totally in the other direction on this after spending a lot of time on my perfect MS4. Basses with pickguards feel weird now. I keep meaning to do a new Sadowsky family shot for this thread with a tagline "unlike some of you, I have standards" :D. MS4 (with hi-beams and stock pickups), RS5 (with DDTs and Area-Js!!!), the perfect Sadowskys for me.

Not a lot of time for photo taking with a 2 month old son though :hyper:

I cant wait to be a part of the club, and i want to post some pictures as soon as i can but i would like to post them like everybody else does not like an attachment where they look small.

Could someone tell me how to post the pictures properly? So i can show you The Best Bass I have ever Owned!:hyper: ( yea am exited about it )

I had a tort made for my natural MS5 to take care of that issue also. It actually looks pretty nice IMO. I posted the pics of it a while back here on TB but I'll try to find them and post again.
