At one point I thought the burl might be a little over the top but now I'm loving the way it looks -- different enough from a regular burst to be interesting but not as striking as quilt. As is usual with Sadowskys the finish is perfect.

Just to make sure everyone gets my drift properly, my use of "over the top" was purely complimentary ...that burl is just so totally classy... fits perfect with the burst/tort theme (also one of my all time faves, which is ridiculously obvious when you look at many of my basses.) :)

Thanks for your thoughts about my post a few days ago, Fran. I played my first two gigs with the flats last night and today. I know I said I was thinking of an old-school sound in my head, which is why I wanted to try flats, but I have to say that I missed the "edge" of my blues, though. I'll give the flats more time.

Still trying to decide about the D-tuner...

thanks, He sure is a big influence for us and Garry Tallent is the reason why I fell in love with bass even before I knew what a bass was.

thanks! Due to an injury on my left thumb I didn't play a note on the 4 weeks prior to the recording so I was feeling a little worried about my playing before entering the studio, I don't think I got the best out of me but everybody was happy with my job so in the end, I was happy too.

Just got a new tort pick guard from Jeannie's for my PJ.

I have to confess that I like Jeannie's much better as it is more reddish as opposed to the brownish Sadowsky tort.

The Jeannie's can be very "brown" too. I ordered a new tort guard for my Lakland Joe Osborn 5 (which I ended up trading in for my Sadowsky) and it was like the tort guard on my Metro PJ5, dark brown, kinda featureless, not many highlights, a bit blah.

It seems difficult to find a nice RED / BROWN tort out there. I like yours and really like the one on the Will Lee that is posted previously. What you end up with seems kind of hit and miss from Sadowsky though. Maybe it's a difference between the original guard materials of Metros vs. NYC's?

In my order to Jeannie's I asked to have a reddish tort and included a pic of a Lakland I found here on TB.

As for the Sadowsky guards, mine is a NYC one. Fellow TBer pablo basso has got a RV5 whose pick guard is very brown as well.

I had the good fortune of getting to spend a bit of quality time with Bart's bass last weekend. He brought it over so I could check it out. And so we could run it through my Mesa M6 and Berg ae410. This WL is simply stunning and elegent. It almost plays itself and sounds spectacular. Add in the nice light weight and you have a very remarkeable bass. Bart is a very lucky man...but we all know that Bart is a wonderful person and he deserves it. I am so happy for Bart.

We talked about the leap of faith on ordering a bass with specific specifications. With the costs associated and the torturous wait, one always hopes that they will love the final product. But I think that with Roger's basses you can count on him and his staff to exceed all expectations. This really is a GAS inducing bass.

Hey all,

I've been looking for a used M5-24 lately...

I know a guy who's trying to sell a used one in good shape for around $2300 shipped (!)

Now, i know the prices have gone up recently, but i don't think i've ever seen a used metro modern go for more than $1800 shipped. An the average on here seems to be around $1600, with $1500 and below a 'screamin' deal'.

What's a fair price out there?
