We have built using anodized Fender 4 string P pickguards in the past, but I do not know how well they will retrofit with our pickguards. We do make a custom P5 anodized guard. Unfortunately they cost us a lot to make and we have to charge $300 for them.

Hi

RS beat me to it, Fran. Id love a gold guard for my hybrid PJ burst. Would look killer. Too bad of the cost. I tried to find one from surfing the web but had no luck

I think a late 50's Fender P like that is the best looking Precision ever produced

I just got the exact same bass. I've always be a J-bass player and thought it would play second fiddle to my Sadowsky J, but I'm really digging the tone of with the P-bass pick-up blended at about 75% of the pick-up mix. Enjoy it!

As far as I know, this was the only '59 burst Sadowsky PJ currently available anywhere in the UK, I still can't quite believe I'm lucky enough to own one :hyper:

Guys - a quick (I hope!) question - any way to tell without pulling the strings and pulling the pickups to tell if I have HC or single coils? I have a new to me UV70 5 string Metro that should have shipped with HC, but it is much more "clanky" than my other Metro UV70 4 string and P/J 5 that I wonder if someone might have swapped the pick ups. Tried panning to the bridge and neck PU, but there was no noticeable hum. Thanks!

Look inside the control cavity. If the pickup leads are green and red, they are humcancelling pickups.

The 5 string single coils have a "matte" or "sandblasted" texture and the HC's are smooth from what I understand.

For the first ten years of my bass playing life, I was faithful to one bass. No matter the gig, that one bass handled it. Then GAS hit and I've gone thru a couple dozen basses in the last few years.

Now it's time to get back to one bass. For various reasons (tone, quality, customer service), I'd like that bass to be a Sadowsky. I spent a few quality hours yesterday in Brooklyn to try out a few basses and get all my questions answered. Big thanks to Kevin D.

For the most part, the bass is spec'd out; Will Lee, hum canceling pickups, flamed maple fretboard, etc. The one thing that's beating me up is the finish. I've never been this indecisive. So I've been going thru the pics of their sold basses for ideas.

One thing I was looking for but can't find is a natural finished, figured (flame or quilt) maple top, vintage bass. They have natural finished, figured maple top standard basses. And they have figured maple top, vintage basses with burst finishes.

Has anyone seen a natural finished, figured maple top, vintage Sadowsky bass?

Keep in mind that you dont have to get a pickguard and control plate with a WL. Mine is standard style w a diamond control layout.

Beautiful bass Rob.

For some strange reason, IMHO, it seems like when you cover half the flames or quilt (with a pickguard), it enhances the rest of the top that shows.

That's similar to what I was thinking but I was looking specifically for a flamed (or quilt) maple top. Not an exotic wood.

Apologies for the photoshop job but attached is what I was looking for.
