I've owned basses with both options (USA Laklands) and never found any advantages to stringing through the body: Tone, sustain and feel were exactly the same (I did a lot of recordings to be sure). I strung them through the body to make sure I didn't lose the string ferrules, but it was a PITA, especially compared to the quick release Sadowsky bridge. I can change the strings and be ready to play on my Sadowskys in less than ten minutes. Once the strings have been used in a bass the windings make very difficult to get them through the body.
I suppose that these might be good reasons for Roger also.

Yup. If I could afford it, and I can't right now, I'd go: Vintage 5, cherryburst, parchment guard, ebony board, quilt on ash. I can dream.... can't I?

Well, I think that's gonna' be a little bit of a logistical problem. That bass has the universal route, and he's wanting to switch to the traditional P config, and I think he's already ordered his replacement guard. Otherwise, he'd have to order yet another one to keep the same color but switch the P.

I've owned a few different models that sport that feature and have simply not noticed a difference other than the stringing inconvenience.
There was one case where I found it useful, but not from a tonal standpoint. On my American Deluxe Precision V, I really loved the way the DR "Longnecks" worked on it (tapered LoRiders), but the taper was so long, the bridge pickup tone suffered... however, if I strung through the body, the taper ended perfectly just before going over the saddle and then through the body.
Other than that, fuggheddabouditt.

I agree, the tortoise shell will look far to busy with the cheery burst. Tortoise shell is classic, but it works better on solid colors.

To answer your question, yes, they use stage rigs there, and in my case, I was borrowing Cory's (TB:Saluki) Bergantino AE410, driving it with my Markbass F1. But there's also a full PA with subs, so a DI line was also being used. I do play in another church, however, which is smaller, but the same kind of very progressive/contemporary theme, and they do use strictly IEM's/DI on stage (though still a full PA with subs for the FOH). That church uses an Aviom system for stage monitoring, and I have some dual and also now some triple driver IEM's I use there. Oh, and the Sadowsky sounds phenomenal through those, too.

AE410/Sadowsky with singles/F1 = perfection (if you like it a bit grindy, articulate, and punchy as the beejeebers! And, +1 virtually no EQ needed... those three pieces of gear just mesh effortlessly. I used to cut a bit of upper mids, but that was when I was more of a wus
The only real reason I now use the F500 with the AE410 is for the more fully featured DI.
Ok cool thanks. I was just curious. And the basses I was referring to in comparison were USA Laklands. I did get a Sadowsky, I ordered it last week.
