Finally, a lightweight Metro P/J 5 appeared and I snapped it up. 8.9lbs..should be here by Friday. Swap the pickguard for black and we are good to go!

Waiting for the big brown truck to arrive. And also wondering how my poor little baby is doing sitting in a truck when it is almost 100 degrees outside.
6:00 tonight..the man in brown appears bearing gifts...when I take it out of the box my wife says "wow..that one is really nice" Trust me, with the amount of basses that come through here, I don't that that very often. I guess it's a keeper! 
I weighed it...8.8lbs. Actually less than the NYC Sadowsky that I currently have.

Ok, I think I see your confusion. It looks like you believe that each pickup is attenuated to 50% at midpoint, and one comes up while the other goes down as you pan. That's not the case.
The thing to understand about a blend control is, at midpoint, you have both pickups at 100%. As you pan to one side, all you do is fade one down. One stays at 100%. So that's easy, pan to 60% on one side and leave the vol at full.
Think about it, if this weren't true, then a fully blended blend equipped bass would be the same as a vol/vol with both vols at 50%, which we both know from personal experience is not the case.
C'mon, gimme a hard one.
This is just one very small example of how helpful Vic is. Vic knows gear. I have depended on Vic's opinion a whole lot in the last year and have yet to be let down. This guy thinks of things in ways that I would never think of. I work around very professional, sharp people all day every day but Vic takes the cake. He is just so super sharp, energetic and passionate about basses and bass playing.

Thanks for always taking time to explain things and giving me your opinions. They are always helpful in my final decision. My wife and I are coming to Central, IL when I get my NYC Sadowsky to let you put it thru its paces. I will post some Pics on here in the action shots forum with you playing an Ash/Maple NYC Sadowsky with Ebony Blocks.

regarding the pickguard, go for the black one but keep that tort at hand for those special occasions when you really want to show off

I was wondering if someone would notice that. I tool the face plate off since I never rack mount it. I talked to Nick Epifani about it and he said a lot of people have requested a version that does not have the ears. It always seemed strange to me that it was not make with removable ears like every other amp on the market.
Nice bass. I dig a black guard on that spec a lot... really ties everything together... knobs, dots on fretboard, and doesn't get in the way of all that nice ash grain... makes it really stand out by contrast. The tort looks good too.
Well, I am stuck with only the tort for the short term. At least on the Sadowsky site it shows the Metro P/J 5 guards out of stock.
Life could be worse. I did get a chance to spend some time with the bass last night. It is exactly what I was looking for..it sounds killer and fills the gaps in the tones that I could not cover as easily with my other basses.
Of course, the first thing I did was take the Blue Label Steel strings off and put on Blue Nickels. I just really don't like SS strings. So, if anyone wants some Blue Label steels that were used for about 30 seconds, let me know. I will make you a deal.
