Nice, Chef! Not much of a link, but I just used my RV5 on a Country session...I was pleasantly surprised the producer wanted to go with that sound, but he dug the mix of warmth and sizzle. I'm still planning to swap out the pickups for the SC's (and toss in the 500k vol pot at the same time) but the more I hear this bass the more I question the need to change anything. (Nonetheless, I'm jealous that Vic got some SC's for his new baby when all I see is "OOS" on the website. Wah, wah! )

Single coils show back in stock now, which should mean MV5 #4168 should ship to me soon, and the RV5 should get overhauled soon.

IMO, I would not bother putting singles in an RV (or NYC alder/RW spec). To my ear, that spec sounds better with the wider, more upper treble oriented HC's. The more compressed (i.e., more low mids, more upper mids versus the deeper bass and upper treble response of the HC's) seems to be 'too much of a good thing' with the mellower alder/RW or Morado spec to my ear.

For me, it is singles in the ash/maple (which tighten that big low end a touch and removes some of the aggressive lower treble gank and replaces it with a nice upper mid grind), and the HC's with the alder/RW basses (which expand the rounder low end of the alder basses, and put a bit more sparkle up top).

IMO and somewhat recent IME.

My Valenti JJ5 and Alleva JJ5 are both more or less that same alder/rw/sc spec; and those do work for me.

A Sadowsky RV will never sound like an A-C LG, singles or not. Not better or worse, but I agree, if you want a more vintage tone, the LG will work for you, and I've heard nothing better for that vibe. Putting singles in an RV will in NO way move that toward a more traditional vintage tone IMO and IME. It will darken it up a bit though, but to me, that's not really what the Sadowsky basses are about.

Not a big risk in trying the swap though.

I got to gig a Sadowsky NYC P-J for the first time on Saturday (thanks Joinercape!). It really was wonderful in the mix and the light weight (< 8 lbs) was a welcome relief to my shoulders too. I can see what the buzz has all been about and I've already started saving.

If you want a more modern, aggressive tone, that's a reasonable swap. I wouldn't do it myself I'm sure you would get a lot of 'trade takers' on that one.

Hmmm...
this is not my experience with my "same spec'd Valenti" which is much more grindy and punchy than the RV.
The Valenti just kills, driving right thru the mix, and is very aggressive.
The RV5-with the hc's being the only spec difference-does deeper, and higher-but seems much more polite, hifi, and has a voice that doesn't meet my personal needs.
True that the AC is more old school, yes, but, it too has a direct punch and grind the hc's don't do, for me.

A Sadowsky RV will never sound like an A-C LG, singles or not.
