Thanks for the confirm, too, btw.

I can definitely attest to the fact that the older NYC and the newer Metro sound essentially identical to me as well, and that any uber-minute diffs I might be able to hear would be attributable to just being different instruments. ALL the "good stuff" is most definitely there!!

I actually prefer the newer ones in your Metro vs the ones in your NYC that I am currently reviewing. Stir Stir Stir.;)

The Nordstrand single loaded Sadowsky's I've played in the past have been quite a bit more mid voiced, smoother up top, tighter down below than the very aggressive Seymour singles... big down low, grindy/bright up top.

Knowing your tone goals, it would not surprise me that you dig the warmer, more organic Nordstrand pickup tone... very nice in its own way. Of course, if the spec on the Metro is a bit different (even the age of strings much less the brand), then all bets are off attributing the tone difference to the pickups alone.

I again have no idea on 'custom winding', etc. Lot's of different stories on that floating around! I can't imagine two different companies being able to produce two pickups that sound identical, since I assume there is more to the pickup tone than just the winding. Again, who knows. They all sound good in their own way!

He's just kidding with the post you're responding to. He hasn't played my Nord SC equipped Metro yet. :)

That said, as I mentioned before, I wouldn't expect both to sound literally identical under close scrutiny, BUT, they're at least very darn close. Very definitely close enough for me to not even think about whatever diffs there might be.

Nice, Chef! Not much of a link, but I just used my RV5 on a Country session...I was pleasantly surprised the producer wanted to go with that sound, but he dug the mix of warmth and sizzle. I'm still planning to swap out the pickups for the SC's (and toss in the 500k vol pot at the same time) but the more I hear this bass the more I question the need to change anything. (Nonetheless, I'm jealous that Vic got some SC's for his new baby when all I see is "OOS" on the website. Wah, wah! :D)
