Chef -- I just put Nordstrand NJ5s in my RV5 and it made a big difference....I would suggest NJ5s.

That makes perfect sense... especially if you're talking about the NJ5's Carey...

Just one side note, especially in a Sadowsky, I'd really recommend sticking with Roger's stuf....

Unfortunately, I've never tried Roger's SC but I have a Nordstrand NJ4 set on my NYC standard. The bass kills. FWIW.

I'm going to have the finances by the end of the August to order my first Sadowsky Bass!!!! I'm really excited.

This was a question I've been thinking about posting in here and/or in the pick-ups section, but it just happened to come up on its own it looks like.

Who has compared Carey's NJ5 (or 4)'s to Sadowsky's singlecoils in Sadowsky basses (or in general)?

yeah, but carey's supplying him singles now. dont know if its for 4's and 5's though. i did see an order of 4's that carey was preparing for roger.

I believe that these pickup's are wound to Roger's specifications so they're not identical to the Nordstrand you'd find on the shelves, I think.

I would have ordered the new rumored to be Nordstrand-made Sadowsky singles, but I got impatient and decided to try the normal NJ5s. String balance in my RS5 is great (and I'm stupid picky about that) and the tone is awesome. I still have the 500k pot, and the tone is very balanced, pretty J-bassy when passive, and big sadowsky tone with the preamp on. With a 250k it might have been a tad dark.

Me. I got the very first one through the shop, and it's friggin' killer. I did have them swap out the HC's for SC's tho. It never actually got to the web site, but here's the picture that would have been part of the post had it made it that far.

I'm still thinking about doing the tort thing with the pickguard as soon as they have one available, but the stock one is growing on me.

As Tom Petty said, "the waiting is the hardest part." I took delivery of this candy apple red RV4-HPJ this past week. I'm so in love, and glad I made the decision to go with this Metro. It is exactly what I wanted. The string spacing is perfect for me and the pre amp is so much more than I realized.

This is like a dream come true, and I really want to extend a thanks to everyone at Sadowsky that took part in building this great bass. From this point on, you are helping me make great music.

Bass NW was really happy to put this bass in my hands, and I can't say enough about the level of customer service from them, as well as Sadowsky in my conversations with all involved.

As good as the PHOTO of the mint does look, I think it doesn't quite do justice to the real deal.(psst - Lv. the mint on it Vic)
I have a mint & a tort coming w/ my P/J 4 build. Pretty much covers it, on a '59 burst, IMO

I am starting to warm up to the parchment PGs on these burst basses. I really liked that look on the one that is headed my way. I can't wait for that jazz to get here. I am seriously feeling the PJ love, but I can't help but think that bass is going to smoke.

Interesting conversation about these Nord vs Sad P-J-5 pickups. Just today I had the Nordy's taken out and the original Sad PJ-5 pickups put back in. While I liked the Nordy's the Sadowsky's just have a better mid-range. The low end of both pickups are excellent.
The high end in both is very nice as well, but for ME...the Sads have a better mid-range tone that the Nordy's do not have.
Everyone's ear is different, and this is my story.

Lovin' it. Congratulations! I can't wait to hear your thoughts. I do like the parchment guard, too. Something about feng shui, I have a hard time with tort against a maple board.

My NYC 5 had HC, too scooped for me. Replaced with Sad SC, a bit better, still too hifi and scooped. Replaced with NJ5, much fatter and warmer, more grunt, treble peak is lower, less extreme lows, more low mids, more mids overall. Much closer to what I am looking for.

But as some of my past posts show, I am probably looking for something much less scooped and hifi sounding that many (most) other Sadowsky owners...

Sending it back to NYC? Why the heck would you do that?? Dude, swapping pickups is absolutely trivial. Even if you're not comfy with a soldering iron, there's gotta' be a tech somewhere in STL who'd do it for a very small sum. It'll be pricey enough just with the pickups... I think they're around 300 for the set maybe?

That said, tough call... I mean, the Nord pickups definitely have a lot more grunt to them, I think they're a much better set, but it's hard for me to gauge if it'd be worth the money to you. If you tell the tech to be careful with the pickups and don't cut any lead wire off, Kevin may offer you an approval period if you're serious about this. Dunno if they would, but wouldn't hurt to ask.

I kinda' posted about it a while back after I first got it, but really, it's pretty much the same tone as my NYC JJ5/SC bass, which is exactly what I wanted, just with more frets... for the times I wanna' get stupid.

Seriously tho, it's a really great bass. Totally worthy. These Metros they're cranking out these days are just insane. The NYC's still have an edge, but not by much!
