OK..updated pics...I actaully played it at church two Sundays ago and it rocked! I like the tort guard but I will think I will get a black one when they are in stock. So, I've left the plastic on the tort one, for now...

Guys... NICE! :)

Are you implying that the "custom" wound Sadowsky Nordstrands are not significantly different than the "regular" Nordstrands?

I am courious about this. I'd love to know what is different with the Sadowsky P5 verses the Nordstrand P5.
I don't know the answer to this question, and quite frankly, it may be proprietary and we may never know, but let me say this...

I had an older NYC PJ5 that someone had put a stock NP5 in, along with the existing (again, I think SD based in the PJ5) HC J5 pickup. I decided to just take both out and do the official update to the new/current Nord based Sadowsky PJ5 set. The P sound was close enough that I probably would have had to record and A/B to tell the difference. IMHO, that's a good thing. I LOVE the NP5 pickup! The J of course was very different, but that's not really a basis for comparison anyway. If it had a stock NJ5S in it, then maybe, but to be honest, I would expect similar results.

So take it for what it's worth... not really any direct comparisons, just subjective from memory, but at the end of the day, it really doesn't matter. The tone is awesome, and that's all I care about. :D

As far as the Single Coils go I would have to say yes per pickles and smeets comments a couple of pages ago. I would also assume since Roger has Carey wind to his specs that there are tonal differences. I sent an email to Carey about this but his response was regarding his HCs vs the Nordstrand supplied SCs. I went ahead and ordered the Sadowsky SCs, but Vic and I are going to do some comparisons and I am not against putting stock NJ5 or NJ5S if it works for my tone goals. My gut says once the HCs are replaced with the Sadowsky SC it is going to :bassist:.

I just ordered sadowsky SC's for my vintage metro...my only regret so far is i forgot to order the 500k vol. pot. But I'm curious to hear any differense the solid body metro will have.

I wrote about my MV4's setup and E-string "zing"-y issues a few pages back. I also had a 500k pot installed by the folks in Brooklyn, and I have my first gig with it on Saturday. I don't know yet how it will sound with the band, but I'll find out soon.

Thanks to Charles and a few others who posted about my zing issues. Someone else mentioned string proximity to the pickup and another mentioned string twist possibilities.

I'm going to write to the folks at Sadowsky later today when I have more time, but I would hope that new strings and a setup by the shop itself would avoid these issues...it was a lot of money to send it up there and have this work done. I wanted to love this bass again when I got it back, but I don't--yet.

Again, I really think it's always the best policy with a Sadowsky bass to get Sadowsky versions of components (if they exist.)

Any differences between a stock version of a pickup and the Sadowsky version, will be carefully planned and calculated by Roger and the crew for best results with a Sadowsky bass. I would really only consider using other pickups in a Sadowsky if (in the, I would think freakishly unlikely case) I was just literally not satisfied with everything Roger had to offer.

I don't know Vic,
The same way as if you'd take Sadowsky SC's and put them on another brand (same level) fine bass, and I'm sure it'll sound fantastic - the same goes if you'll use other high end pickups on a Sadowsky bass. The difference would be about taste - not quality or match, IMHO.

In principle, I agree with you. But, my instincts tell me that if there is one instrument out there that you want to keep are pure to the original vision as possible, it is a Sadowsky.

No argue regarding originality sound-wise. However, even the so called "Sadowsky sound" has evolved over the years.
All I'm saying is that it's not necessarily better sound or worst and the difference may be very subtle (Original Nordstrand Vs Sadowsky specs made by Nordstrand)

Well, of course there's always the subjective/taste factor and I know there are a lot of great quality pickups out there, but I'm going to disagree with you that it's not about "match"... at least specifically on a Sadowsky, because Roger has spent a lot of time working on "the Sadowsky sound" very specifically, and that specific sound is a huge reason why someone would select a Sadowsky over the dizzying selection of other truly great "Fender-ish" basses out there.

I'm sure Sadowsky pickups would (and DO) sound great in other basses, and I'm also sure, other pickups would sound great in a Sadowsky, BUT, then I'd question why you got a Sadowsky if you didn't want that sound.

Now, before you call me a hypocrite since I just recently said I'm gonna' try a set of Carey's NJS pickups in my NYC that currently has the Sadowsky HC's in it, it's only because Roger's already pretty much "qualified" that pickup (or at least one I think is very close to it) in his current PJ5 setup, so I am being consistent, at least. And, if Roger had an NJ5S neck pickup to pair with his NJ5S bridge from the PJ5 setup, I would actually get them from Sadowsky.

IMHO as always of course.
