Club Sadowsky!!!

Cool looking bass. Thats the same era, Probably a Tom Anderson Sadowsky as well. It might have had the same pre originally.

#1784 was built in May 1994. At that time, we were using a linear humbucking Bartolini 5 string pickup that required a separate gain pre, because the output was very low on those pickups. The black cube is the Bartolini DTB1-3. The circuit on the bottom of the control cavity is the Sadowsky pre. So, I am guessing that someone replaced the pickups and failed to remove the Bartolini pre. My guess is that the output of this bass must be very hot.

Tom had made parts for me in the 80's. By the early 90's, the only parts he continued to make for me were 4 string J bass necks. Tom had decided to get out of the parts business and we were completely phased out with Tom by 1994.

Thanks, I will pass the info on to Kenny. Yes, someone has changed the pickups and the bass and it is a little hotter then the newer ones. I guess that with the older pre and the Bart pre and the pickups sure answers why nothing else sounds like it. But your saying this bart system isn't the same pre that was used with the EMG active pickups in the earlier Sadowsky's?

Also, the uncovered board in the picture, is it the same preamp that is in the current Sadowsky basses or different?

This Bart pre is only a gain pre. It does not offer active tone controls. Simply used to boost the gain of the pickups to "normal". The unpotted circuit is the first generation of the current Sadowsky pre. No changes made since then other than to improve reliability.

I did a gig in Springfield MA this past Saturday night, and a bass player came up to me on set break with compliments on my sound. Yes my Aggie rig certainly deserves a good deal of credit, but this cat tells me it's the first time he's seen and heard a Sadowsky bass in person, but has obviously heard plenty about them (maybe a TBer?) because he asked me "are they really worth all that money?" I said "well, now that you've heard one, does it sound like it's worth it?" Without hesitation..."you bet!" :D

After the months of waiting, I've just got the Fedex tracking details for my entry to the Sadowsky club!:)

Have got this baby on the way:
MV4 with Single coils, D-tuner and VTC!

We are all mostly serious bass geeks here and are a small part of the bass playing population that even has heard of a Sadowsky.

I get a kick out of the many bassists that have told me after a gig how good my Jazz bass sounds considering it isn't a Fender. I seriously think the Sadowsky label on the headstock prevents many thefts. A MIM Fender beside my NYC Sadowsky would likely get stolen and the Sadowsky "Fender knockoff" would likely be safe!:p:D

btw if anyone has a nice LARGE pic of a pearloid PG that's nice I might try it again, I had to take a little bitty bit of a small pic, and stretch it for this one, that why no definition in the PG.

What do ya think should I change my Pgrd
