HI
Hey F32, you should start a "I crapped out of the Sadowsky club" club. Start a thread on it. You, bigmikeW, etc. LOL
Bunch of traitors. LOL
Good luck. You'll find another band super soon
Rob
Yeah, wasn't he one of the biggest Sadowsky fanboys of them all (well, excluding JimS and Bikeplate!BigmikeW doesn't play Sadowskys anymore?! What happened?!

Gilles! What's up with that bass!? Is it cursed, or what!?
I thought that you'd really get a kick out of that one. Oh well, they're still very hard to come by in Europe, so you'll have no trouble getting rid of it. Sorry it didn't work out
.

I present to you the apogee of musical instruments,
the zenith of tone,
the meridian of harmonics,
and I think it can get can low notes, too:

Well Andy, that bass looks so gorgeous that it gets into hands of people like you and methat are not worthy

No seriously, I got that bass of yours, thinking I got an even bigger version of the (MV5) J sound.
But it is no J sound at all. It sounds TOO THICK, too R'n'B, too modern ... for my taste.
I am a J guy, that is the conclusion I get from all my experiments with non-J-basses.
But maybe someone is willing to trade some MV5, RV5 or UV 5 string for it.....

Did I miss anybody???
Let me know if I did!!!!!
As some of you may have seen from other threads I started, I recently purchases a NYC Standard 4 that was build for Steve W. Rabe of SWR and used in some SWR ads in the early 90's. I've been trying to date the bass. On the back of the headstock it mentions J.Black as one the builders. In another thread Roger mentioned Jay Black worked with him in the late 80's. So that puts my bass some where in that time frame. Well last night I opened the control cavity cover and there were two dates penciled on the inside of the cover, 12-88 and 12-98. I'm guessing that the 12-88 was the build date and maybe the 12-98 was when it was serviced at Sadowsky for some reason?? I know the build date could not have been in 98 because of when those SWR ads came out. Well if it is a 1988, I have a vintage Sadowsky...and a well broken in one at that! Any of you Sadowsky heads concur?

It was built in 1988. In 1998, Steve Rabe sent it back to be "refurbished". We did a complete overhaul at that time. That bass was at the SWR booth every year from 1988 until Steve left the company.

I'm sure someone else might be able to help you out, but how about some pics of the rest of the bass too.![]()
