I've heard and played Sadowsky 24F Modern's with Ebony FB's and they just don't do it for me sonically. But I LOVE the look. It seems that almost most of the exotic/gorgeous looking Sadowsky's are Moderns. But to my ears, the most magical Sadowsky is a JJ, Ash/Maple (with exotic figured top)

I was in NYC last weekend and visited Roger's shop and met Roger and Lisa. Both were really nice. Roger was especially friendly and took the time out to have a chat when I was only there to get a portabag!
I played many of the basses in the "in stock" room and really had a ball when I was there. Although the shop is about as hard to find as one could imagine (although it was only our second day in NYC), once we were there I was in heaven! In fact, I stopped off first for about 5 mins before I had to go and do some more shopping with my girlfriend, but was able to come back later for a bit longer when she went to the spa. That gave me some time to check out the stuff.
My first observation was that the modern 5 shape is a lot prettier in real life than I had seen in pictures. I always thought it didn't look quite right in pictures, but having seen in in person, it really is hot. The neck on the 5 is also great, really very comfortable to play. I played the "vagina bass" featured earlier and not only is it light as hell, but the tone with the Nordies is out of this world. It solidified that the next Sadowsky I order will have Nordy big singles in it.
The other observation I had was just how friendly Roger and his staff are. They are all really lovely and took the time to chat and it didn't seem like I was "hassling" them. I was really glad I took the time to stop by and knowing that they are happy to see someone who just comes in to "kick the tyres" and take the time makes a big difference.
If you are ever in NYC take the time to visit the shop. It was a great experience.

I have 4 Sadowsky basses and the one that is the most hypnotic, fun and infinitely pleasing is the JJ ash/maple combo.
