Club Sadowsky!!!

Subscribed after lurking here for some time now...hoping to join the club in the next couple of months, as I greatly admire these basses. Still trying to learn about the options and trying to find the right bass for me.

Strugling to land between Metro RV5-JJ and RV5-PJ (rosewood boards) -or- Metro MV5-JJ and MV5-PJ (maple boards).

Looking for tonal flexibility, deep full bass with crisp articluation, punch and rich, even mids (not scooped). I play finger-style and rarely slap...never pick.

Would greatly appreciate any recommendations from those who own any of these fine basses...or other Sadowsky models I haven't yet considered.

Thoughts?

Bass Club Chicago is a metro dealer. They should have MVs and RVs @ the shop. Chef just posted his take on the two earlier today.

The key is it has to be the red/black tort... not the usual tort, but yeah, it was a "whim" for me and it worked out really well. That Geddy has actually been with me for a LONG time now. It's my only 4 banger, and my only fully passive bass. I don't play it a lot mainly 'cause it's kinda' heavy (about 10 lbs) and I do miss the B string a lot, but in the blues band, it's pretty much a required bring. I can't sell it because every time I play it to check it over and such, its tone just blows my mind. So good.

Got it at winter NAMM '09. Insanely great bass. I was never really much of an F fan, despite his great products, but when he came out with the VF, I was a goner. Single coil pickups, too. :)

Nope. One Indian rosewood (AC LG5) and one Madagascar rosewood (VF5).

I like maple, and in particular when paired with an ash body (you'll notice the Sadowskys kinda' dominate the pile) because that particular combo gives me the fingerstyle tone I'm happiest with. Nice full low end, but fairly controlled, strong aggression in especially the upper mids and the snap of the maple is down a little lower than ebony and rosewood, which gives me an overall high mid/low treble presence I really like best.

That said, as you can see, I have a couple alder/rw basses that have really won me over. With the right components, I can get a really good tho smooth brilliance and a bit rounder but still controlled low end with that wood combo.

Thanks, hoping to get into Bass Club Chicago in the next couple weeks (I'm way out in the 'burbs) - helpful to have them within striking distane - jut trying to get my legs here before I go. I did read Chef's post and did find it most helpful. That said, I'm still trying to learn the language a bit...this may be embarassingly obvious once answered, but what are HC's and SC's?

I was packing for my gig last night and my son (who is 6) says to me "Dad, Are you going to bring your Sadowsky to the gig?" He remembers visiting the shop with my this time last year. Of course, I couldn't let him down. ;)

I told him he could pick the bass that I would bring to the gig. He chose my cherryburst NYC Standard 5. I haven't used that bass in awhile on a gig. It absolutely killed though. I've been playing my NYC PJ5 almost exclusively at gigs lately -- so this was a nice refreshing change. Great stuff!

I used an RH450 and AE410. That combo with my single coil ash/maple NYC just smoked.
