I'm SURE that M5-24 you're trying to sell doesn't exactly "suck", even though you know it's not the end game, so I'm figuring you're not exactly "suffering" while you do search for your match. I'm betting you just need to get yourself into some kind of ash/maple J bass and you'll be happy. I would recommend you at least temporarily suspend your 24 fret requirement, however, and just get the next great looking MV5 that comes along, while you eventually watch for a 24 fret version to show up. I'm pretty sure that's the order in which they'll show up in your search, and no reason to just "do without" because you can't find a 24 fret model in the near term.

No, it doesn't suck. I'm not suffering. :)
I'm guessing a J bass would be more suited to my gigs.
I can probably lose the last 3 frets.
Actually, I think some of the "mid honk" issue is with my Genz Benz Shuttle 6.0-12T combo cab.

So...a nice M5-24 for trade for a nice MV5.;)

That bass with it's narrower voicing is gonna' be a big part of that, and I do think a J style bass would probably suit you better, but a different rig, namely, a much bigger cab, would help a lot, regardless of what kinda' bass you were playing (per Chef).

Exactly. I think you'll have much better luck with this plan. MV5's pop up pretty regular, and even if you can't do a trade deal, at least you won't have to wait long to get one... especially if you can manage to buy before you sell, just noting you'll still have to sell to recover what account you got the money from.

4 strings....making a comeback...hmmmm.........

I did play one of mine for the first time in a long time last weekend, and actually really enjoyed it. I was surprised.

I'd be curious to know what the Sadowsky sales ratio of 4's to 5's is.....

By MPJ4 do you mean Metro PJ4? If so, yes he does. In fact, he had the PJ4 before he had the PJ5. He offers both the alder/morado and the ash/maple in this model, which is called the RV4-HPJ (Hybrid PJ) or MV4-HPJ respectively. It's "hybrid" because it's a P body and a J neck (narrower nut).

Thank you Vic,

I've just never been crazy about the hybrid PJ4:hiding:. Just didn't float my boat. I was thinking along the line of a Metro PJ4 with a JJ body and neck.

Which is probably what I would have guessed. I would venture to guess that a couple of years ago..it would have been weighted slightly towards 5 string basses. I have had some conversations with some boutique bass shop owners and they said they have definitely seen a shift in the past couple of years to people buying more 4 string basses. For the most part, I learned on 5 string and kinda wished I had not. I am pretty stuck on it now but sometimes wish I were more comfortable on a 4.

Yeah, the amp is probably an issue, but I have used it successfully with other basses. I really think it's the tight spacing and placement of the pups in the bass. This is the 2nd one I've tried and I am getting the same results.

I played my '89 EB-MM Sabre last week just before selling it to a friend. Excellent bass in all aspects except for the missing string.

I'm too old to worry about fads. :smug: I play the bass that's right for me, and that bass happens to have 5 strings...

...and a Sadowsky decal on the headstock. :)
