#5693 is gonna be here tomorrow. Ash/Maple Vintage 5 string with Figured maple top finished in 59Burst w/tort PG, Vintage tinted BE Maple board with Ebony Blocks. SC pups in the 60s position and Reverse pan. 8.5 lbs built by Rob Lopinzi. Shipped with HSC. I am thrilled. Kevin said it would be 8 months because he didnt have a body blank in stock and be cause over 1/2 way through the build I decided I wanted blocks but it has been a little under 7 1/2 months. The Sadowsky crew delivers again. I will prob be too busy playing it to give a detailed desc. of my first impression but I will try to give a brief report tomorrow night. Ive bribed my wife to stay home all day so she is here when the Fed Ex guy arrives.

You mean Hugh McDonald?On Letterman tonight Bon Jovi's bass player was playing a Sadowsky P. 5er (straight up P.) -alder/rw - burst. Not much good visual of it. Just some more late night Sadowsky magic!

Yeah- I'd ask them as they came by for a visit if they'd sign my bass and bless it with their mojo. Everyone was so cool about it.
Marcus Miller is the nicest guy. We'd sit in the back sound room and talk chops and such. Of course, he blew me away! We used to talk about slapping Teen Town by Jaco, and he would play it off like "no big"....I was like YEAH RIGHT!
One day he was in the sound room when he came in to pick up his bass, and he yelled out my name and said "see! check it out" and he started to slap Teen Town. I just levitated! I walked over and he handed me his bass and I tried it- I could do it! I'll tell you, a big factor was his action- the way his bass was set up just totally BEGGED for slapping. Later, I tried it on my own Sadowsky....well...back to Marcus' bass!
Will was loads of fun to work with too. He knew what he wanted, and if you can believe it, we were building basses back in 2000 that eventually led up to the Will Lee model you see today. Will didn't always communicate in simple terms to describe what he wanted to hear in his instrument. Time at the shop, as well as time at Letterman was spent making sure we were on the right track, as well as making sure he was happy. The older sunburst Sadowsky he used to play for so many years was a great bass. It played well, and had a great sound. It was gorgeous, and definately well used. I remember that it had '78 jazz bass pickups in it I think...hmmm.
Well, New York is a different place today, as well as its music scene. 10 years ago, you'd see Leontine Price (opera singer) on one block, Robin Williams on another, turn the corner and Pat Methany or Walter Brecker, or even Donald Fagen, Hugh McDonald, Sting, Judy Dench, Woody Allen....you name it- it was fun to be there. There was a restaurant called the Metropolitan down the street from my apartment where every Tuesday night they would have a Jam/Mixer from 9PM until midnight (it usually went till 2AM!). Generally, Will Lee would show up, sometimes Anton Fig & Paul Schaffer, Chuck Loeb, Anthony Jackson, Dave Mann on sax, and in many cases whoever was in town to play at the Beacon Theatre or Madison Square Garden. The cool thing was that they would be sitting next to you in the bar or restaurant area, then they were taking turns rockin' out until whenever! It lasted three or so years while I was there and then the greedy land owners forced out the tenants and tore down the building to build yet another over-priced condo. The joke was on the landlord- after 9/11, the New York real estate market collapsed and the land just laid vacant till this day. A lot of investors pulled out which led to a lot of dirt lots. So is the case with so many fabulous venues in the city....oh well.
Glad I got a piece of it before it went away.
For what its worth, I have never met, let alone worked for a more kind, gentle, devoted and brilliant man than Roger Sadowsky. My time working at his shop leaves me with the most precious memories. If you knew the amount of hard work and craftsmanship that goes into each instrument... Props to the MAN! Gotta say, he is focused, and has a great sense of humor!
Ok... got myself so riled up, I gotta go plug in my Sadowsky and jam a bit.
