I think that may be just about the best post EVER in the Sadowsky Club thread.
Well, if Roger said all members as of today got a bass of their choice for $300, it may be the second best, but thus far, IMO it's the best!

Hehe, I love that strap. I got it on Ebay for around $20, it's an Italia Wide 5. My Ray5 weighed around 10.5 pounds, and with my old strap (Levy's M6, 3.5 inch wide)-my shoulder would be sore after a long rehearsal. I haven't weighed the M5-24 yet, but it feels a bit lighter.

With regards to Cleveland, it's OK, some day you'll drink the Kool Aid. That Club is as addicting as this one. I don't see myself ever selling it. I want another DB, but the one that I want is a carved Cleveland. The last one that I saw for sale was a few years ago, and it was going for around $8500.

Thing is, I intentionally misinterpreted you for humor, but in fact, as much as I am still kind of in "collect/variety mode" there's a helluva lotta wisdom in being more of a one or two instrument person... regardless of what drives that (money or personal choice). I'm absolutely positive my playing suffers from a lack of instrumental consistency, but I'm ok with it because my playing is good enough to get and keep decent gigs, and I'm enjoying the variety.

However... if I ever got really serious about it, which I could someday... I'd probably either sell or semi-permanently store a bunch of stuff. I actually noodle over this very thing more than some folks might think, too... especially after hearing a really stellar bassist just blow my mind at a show.

Anyway, it's all good.

This probably will sound thread-serving, but...

I do spread it around a lot, but for pretty much the last year or so especially, it's been mostly about the Sadowsky stuff. Not like 10:1, but surely the majority. I've just been an ash/maple J guy all my life... my first real nice bass was a '78 J that weighed a f'n ton, but had tone that makes the angels weep.

The Sadowsky, while not exactly the same thing, is more like what I always hoped Fender would come out with. Just so strong and even from low to high, and there's something about the bass that really keeps the D and G strings from kinda' disappearing in the mix without having to compensate by digging in harder like on some other basses (including some modern style ones) I've played. May seem like kind of a small issue, but it's big to me.

The Sadowsky just seems to have a particular "talent" for not needing anything extra from you or your rig. You just play the damn thing any way you want, and nothing is missing. Nothing to "distract" you from just focusing on the music and being inspired.

There's a lot of really beautiful and amazing basses out there, but every time I pick up a Sadowsky, it's ridiculously obvious to me how much time Roger has spent working VERY closely with top professionals developing an instrument that simply always fires on all cylinders... always.

Anyway, I'm rambling.

Roger, you and your people are amazing. Everything about you. The products, the service... you set the standard. Period. Thanks.

I'm with you Brother. I know that my playing skills just don't warrant the caliber of instruments I have. I so often hear players that make me feel that I should just sell it all off.

When I was taking lessons my teacher used to recommend that I concentrate on playing one bass so that everything is consistent. I agree with him but what fun is that?

I constantly find that if I am struggling with a riff that if I change basses that riff seems easier. Of course that's not too practical in a real world situation.

Ummm. I coulda wrote that, it's surely accurate enough for me and my gear.

I have have 6 old Fenders, 4 old G&L's, 3 Reverends...and then the 4 basses I most consistently take to work.

And lately, that's been mostly Sadowsky + one other bass...and those, mostly just cause I have them.

I think I know what you're trying to say, but I've never agreed with this perspective. The only things you need to "deserve" a great instrument is the money to pay for it and the fact that it truly inspires you to play better.

It's NOT about your skill level... it IS about your musical experience.

As long as you're NOT buying it for the status/image, then you're NOT a poser (which is really I think what you're afraid of being thought of here). If someone is going to pass judgment on you without knowing you, that's THEIR problem... not yours.

There's TONS of bassists out there that blow my doors off without even breaking a sweat, and doing it on $300 class basses. Doesn't bug me one bit, and it shouldn't bug you, either.

In short, it truly and honestly enhances my musical experience to be on a Sadowsky (or similar quality) bass, and I can afford it, so "done."

Count me in, too. I'm just a weekend warrior, and a support player, not a soloist. Early this millennium I tried some fancy looking boutiques with spalty/quilty tops, but realized I was much more comfortable wearing a Fender style bass. A minor but significant reason I love Sadowskys is that they can be "stealth boutiques" -- particularly mine because they sport opaque paint.

I'm no one, really

Play with some great players, in some nice bands, but I'm done with "touring," if that means 5 sweaty guys in a Ford 15 passenger van, living out of skanky hotels for weeks on end. And I doubt anyone's waiting to pay me more than my day job, and put me in my own bus with a bunk, bathroom, and room for my dawg...(if you are, pm me, I've been waiting for you).

I have a day job, and play pretty dang local as there just isn't enough coin to draw me out any further than that.
Playing doesn't pay my mortgage, but, I don't spend more on gear than I make (or, at least have on my gig calendar).

The Metro line makes it affordable enough for me to play a really kick butt bass.
Sweet.

So, I'm sure there are more significant players than me, and surely better players than me (wouldn't take lots!), but, as long as I'm working enough to pay for them, I feel like I deserve a nice bass as much as anyone...and I really enjoy a nice bass. They make my music experience more enjoyable to me. For now, that's kinda my bottom line. If it wasn't fun, I wouldn't be in it!!

A great way to look at it.

I'm certain that most of the high end bass builders are glad that there are guys like me around too. If they had to depend on touring pros for their bread n' butter life might be a little rough.

Exactly. And, what makes it even better is guys like Roger Sadowsky understand that. I called the shop yesterday and ordered a few odds and ends. The whole order was only about 100 bucks and it happens that he answered the phone. He was just as gracious to my needs as he would be the touring pro. I am certain that is just his character, but it was refreshing.

I'm kind of with you on that. When you finally find 'the one', GAS tends to go away. However, I went through a couple before I really zeroed in on the tone and feel that spoke to me. Eventually, most will get there, but sometimes it takes some 'trial and error'.

At the moment, I feel that I've find the perfect 60's style, 70's style and 'modern/active sounding (my Sadowsky) J basses, and will soon add what I hope is the optimum P5 for my personal tone goals. That will pretty much finish out the set!

I find myself in the same boat. My one Sadowsky does all I ask a bass to do, and it does it well. If I hit the lotto, I might by a couple of more, but I'm very satisfied with my one bass. As far as GAS, I could certainly justify a bigger cab (AE410 or AE 212) before I could justify another bass.

I don't think it can be expressed any better than that IMO.

There are very few things in this life that stirs emotion in me like hearing the exquisite tone produced by the bass I'm playing. If it is equally beautiful to look at and to touch, then that's all the justification that anyone really needs for the proud ownership of the instrument. That also tends to increase one's appreciation for the craftsmanship involved in it's build. jus' sayin'.

Gotta say, I walked in, Jamie had it sitting on the stand, from the second I picked it up and plugged it in and started playing.....like an old pair of shoes.....just "right".
Instantly had the sound that's in my head coming from the bass.

Why the hell do I do this....I ALWAYS end up back at Sadowsky.

I have pretty intensive rehearsals for Christmas this year at my church (some of you have seen the clips from years past- it's pretty intense. A big church) and have a LOT of gigs through the end of the year. And bookings filling up through April as well.
This bass is gonna see a LOT of gigs the next few months.
Be able to give my Valenti a rest!

Sweet Mike, I like it better with the white pick guard then the Tortoise shell. The tortoise IMO is to busy on a figured top.
