Club Sandberg (part 2)

Curious about that vintage of that model. How's the weight and what's the neck width up at the nut/zero fret? The new ones look like they have a 39.5mm width, but I recently picked up an Electra from perhaps the 2014 era. Their site currently lists these as also having that 39.5mm width, buy my older one is 38mm.

That's the same model I have. I had another VM5 with the standard pickups, but the Black Labels really set this one apart. Not to mention that stunning 'stealth mode' look! With this and my Mark 1 TSBS I've found it hard to play anything else. Nothing else comes close.

The Black Labels are a amazing. I am looking for a set of black labels for my Cali TT5 to replace the stock ones which I am not a big fan of.

Okay - I've done some research into this and am confused now.

From what I have read, the stock strings are definitely steels and they are in 40-60-80-100 gauges.

A lot of people have suggested these are GHS Super Steels made to Sandberg specs. That would make sense has GHS do not do the Super Steels in a standard 40-100 gauge.

What confuses me is that I have not got confirmation about the core being used on these Sandberg strings. I cannot find the info anywhere on the web. The only shop that does list the core info is here:

They have it has roundcore. GHS SS are hexcore. I have emailed the seller asking if this is correct or not.

The mystery continues...

Not that this is any direct help but a couple years ago the factory confirmed that the strings on the Electra series are D'Addario XL's. and I've kept using them even though all my other basses have Sunbeams.
The ball ends were the giveaway.

Just found the email to Mike at Sandberg.
He is a really patient guy; also, this is from Sept. of 2018 so things might have changed

Hello,
One last question regarding strings.
The Sandberg strings that came on my Electra are very nice although shipping from overseas is very expensive.
I haven't found a US distributor that stocks them.
What brand would you recommend? (I will stick with .045=.100, round wounds)

I also thought it could be possible that a manufacturer put their standard strings in your packaging.
My bass came with colored ball ends but the tension (and bendability) wasn't as tough as the D'Addarios we see with colored ends in the US.

We use 4 different types of bass strings at the moment….

Electra Series – D´Addario nickel

Marlowe DK Signature Bass – Dunlop nickel

Fretless basses – GHS Boomers nickel

6-sting basses – GHS Boomers nickel

All other basses – Sandberg stainless steel

That was me!! Holy cow this bass is SICK. I have a California 5 that plays better than any instrument I've ever owned (currently Suhr, Sadowsky, Fender, Alien, Tyler, Status...among others) and this one rivals it. The strings are old and dead and they thump so good I'm having a hard time replacing it. The neck...wow...the neck. My main bass is a very special Suhr jazz 4 string (lake placid blue with tortoise shell) and I never thought I'd find anything that rivals it. This does. I'm floored. The guy that owned the bass threw in a thick levy's strap and strap locks too. I was stoked about that because my other Sandberg is crazy heavy. This one is NOT.

Does anyone know how to contact Sandberg? I would like to know more about this model...like what kind of aging it is (it's pretty extreme)

I got on here to ask about the controls. I can't seem to find anything on Sandberg's site about it and while I think I know what everything does, I'm not 100% sure. I think the switch near the pickups is a coil tap and the volume takes the bass passive if pulled out...not sure.

Dude I bought it from was a cool guy. I'd buy from him again. I sent him a really good offer and he took it, surprising me and my wife even more.

I'll post more when I get more time with it. It arrived yesterday.

Now i'm selling a gorgeous Suhr Tobacco Burst, which was my backup, if anyone is interested.

I assume youre talking about the Gloss black California V? Not the mat black T series (which is a Grand Dark)

No, her signature model has a jazz neck pup and MM bridge pup. This one has the Precision Pickup standard to the V series.

My bass is also 35" scale, has the Darkglass Preamp, Luminlay side dots, and is swamp ash instead of alder.
