Because now I have TT5 with sandberg single coils and I love the way they sound more with broken-in strings, I just want some humcancelling pickups as I prefer either of them played instead of 50/50 balance, cause I hate 60Hz hum...
Hey guys! I just found this forum and wanted to post about the custom order I put in around 4 months ago - A birdseye maple fretboard, a hipshot bass xtender, and a request that they use a piece of wood on the lighter end. I'm considering getting an aftermarket anodized gold pickguard for it too, but I haven't made up my mind about that. I can't wait!

The single coils in my TT barely make any noise/hum when soloed. How much noise are you getting? Are you using a coiled instrument cable?
Where can you find the anodized gold pickguard? I asked Marc and he said those can be quite pricey. I would want one as well.
I haven't looked too closely, but there a bunch of sites that make custom gold anodized guards for ~$100-150. If you google "custom anodized gold pickguard," a few options should pop up. I haven't researched much because my bass won't come for a few months. I asked for prices from sandberg directly, and they quoted me for $600!!
Gold anodized guards always seem like a bad idea to me. It seems like it would scratch easily and then have issues with being sharp. I've never understood why people just didn't simulate a Gretsch guard like this.

The thing about metal guards is if they are grounded, they will act as a shield reducing noise.
But they only have them for Fender type instruments.

And I on the contrary like my strings broken-in with my TT5. I am not a big fan of zingy highs.
Just got a hardcore aged California from 2008.
Question about the TM-4 and Nighthawk series for those who might own them...
How would you compare the neck on these to, say, a Fender US or roadworn jazz bass, or Music Man Stingray?
Are they thinner front-to-back? Narrower from side-to-side?
Are there other brands/styles that you would compare the feel of the neck to?
Hard to find Sandbergs in the wild around these parts.

I don't have a Nighthawk but I have a TM-4 and a VS-4, and because the neck on them is the same, I think it's safe to say that's the same profile Sandberg uses on the Nighthawk.
It's slightly wider at the nut than a Jazz. I find it super comfortable and actually prefer the tiny bit of extra space between the strings, though it may just me in my head. The depth is thinner with a larger radius. Noticeably different and more comfortable to me. Last stingray I played, older US version, had a P-bass width and a tighter radius yielding a thicker neck... very much felt like a P-bass to me. The Sandberg neck does not.
