Club Sandberg (part 2)

Anton. You could have ordered your bass with black labels, Haussel or Kloppman, and no preamp. Have you thought about changing the preamp? I have a TT with stock Sandy pups and I LOVE THEM. What are you not getting out of that sweet solo "v" pup that you want? We need to start there. Also, it could be your amp, cabinet or speakers not giving you what you want. These are amazing instruments and to be gutting the thing after a week seems like you might start chasing your tail. Note, this won't sound exactly like a classic P bass if that's what you are going for. 2Cents

I must confess after spending a bit longer with this bass I love this pickup! I was afraid it was a Delano one that I am actually not a big fan of, but it is their own pickup and it sounds stellar. I live it as is now but will remove the preamp anyway cause I like how it sounds in passive mode. Absolutely agree with you about TT with their Sandy's single coils, I have TT5 passive and these pickups leave nothing to desire. As for the ordering one passive I know there's an option but I bought it used from Sandberg official dealer as well as my TT5. Thanks for your input, I really appreciate it. I switched to Sandberg from Spector basses and don't look back. Sandberg basses IMO have the best value-for-money ratio of all basses I ever played.

I moved the Sandberg VS4 pickup into my old early VM4 which originally had a Delano in. It sounded much better in the 9lb VM4 than my 7.5lb VS4. I suspect the reverse configuration was a factor too.

The Delano was quite modern with nasal mids and the Sandberg big pole P is much more open sounding and slightly more vintage (possibly voiced for the reverse routing).

Just received a TM-5 this week. I've been playing VM-5s and TM-5s the past couple years, and this past March I placed a custom order through Dijkmann's in the Netherlands. Thought y'all might enjoy a pic or two. It's a cosmetic departure for me--never had a bass with a matched headstock or gold hardware before--but I liked the way it all looked on the Configurator, so...

My freshly-baked 48 says "Made in Germany," for what that's worth.

I'd guess that "German quality" implies that its production was outsourced to somewhere outside Germany, but then I also thought they made all their instruments in-house.
