Having never seen any Sandberg in person I was reluctant to place an order. Got an opportunity to nab this on Saturday from an acquaintance. It literally took 10 seconds to pull the trigger. It’d be a great bass at 11 pounds but at 6.75 pounds it’s a great bass that I’ll play!

Yes, I was reluctant as well but getting older I can dig the light weight. The videos I've seen I just love the tone. Don't think you can go wrong here.

I almost never solo a bridge pickup. I can see myself soloing the one on this one for sure!

Very similar to the Superlight 6 he’s been playing recently. I see different pickups and string retainer.

Any good places to get a new pickguard for a VM4 other than Sandberg? I’ve been waiting on my black pickguard for my VM4 for going on 5 months at this point. Ordered one through CME in mid December last year, in February I was sent one for a VM5. Returned that and now I’ve heard nothing after multiple emails to both CME and Marc.

Who's got the details on Oteil's new bass?

I'm only speculating but obviously looks to be a TM2 six string model. If I had to guess, this is a super light model based on previous threads when he got his first Sandberg. I recall him having some back issues as of late and a super light 6 string was something that was important. Looks to be a roasted maple neck. As for the pickups, although I don't see the emblem but I wonder if those are Lane Poor pickups based on their appearance (no exposed pole pieces) and his affinity for them. I know he's had Lane Poor pickups in some of his Modulus basses. As for the preamp, who knows but I'm sure that will eventually be revealed.

You might be right about the Lane Poor Pickups. I agree probably a roasted neck, similar to his current Sandberg California II TM6 Ultra-Light. Ironically enough I had a beautiful but heavy Modulus 6 but had to sell it due to back issues myself. Picked up a Sandberg for the same reasons Oteil did (low-back). Here's mine:

It's pretty stock and already a great bass but that Lane Poor idea is intriguing...

Looking forward to hearing Oteil and his new Sandberg June 9&10 at Wrigley.

The original listing calls them "black label pickups" and further clarifies that they are 1 x Delano J style, 1 x Delano M style with single/dual coil switch.I assume these are stock from Sandberg for this model. I have not changed anything on it yet.

Pretty flexible config as it currently is. Although there are time I wish the neck pickup were a bit rounder sounding...

If I were going for ultimate lightweight, I'd be looking into the Lace Alumitones. I had a bass with them and they sounded great. I don't know how they work, but there's no heavy magnet or metal; they are hollow.

The Black bridge with plain symbol before...

And the black bridge Sandberg symbol after...added a little testors silver model car paint.

Hi a small change to my Sandberg TM 5 bridge symbol with black hardware and Violet Burst finish I recently got from a fellow TBer.

If you look on the picture of Oteil's new 6 string bridge you can see that the symbol is silver instead of no silver in it like that so I thought why not. lol

A Dab of silver paint. Not perfect but turned out good. Before and after picture. (currently the black pickguard is off too might come up with something for a different pickguard look later)

Ah yes, couldn't see the lettering in the first photo. Speaking of those Delano pickups, these appear to be the ones with the "carbon steel blades, special ferrite magnets" construction. Does anyone know how these compare to the exposed pole piece versions?
