Hey all Sandberg-lovers,
I’m considering on getting a Sandberg M4 but I’m having difficulties finding any proper reviews of it. Does anyone here have any experience with the bass? I’m looking for a grindy musicman kind of growl. Also, how is the passive mode? I’m not that interested in using it in the active setting, because I already have an additional preamp in my signal chain.

If you’re looking for the Musicman sound, the TM-2 (dual Humbucker) is a great bass. I have one.
Passive is great too.
Hello guys! New user here, I tried a Sandberg VM4 a year back and really enjoyed it, how good is the consistency between different examples? I'm thinking of ordering it online and want to get similar sound and feel as that example. Are there typically the same neck width/thickness dimensions or could it vary between examples?

Necks are all cnc'd so they should be the exact same. I've also never heard of Delano pickups being inconsistent in how they sound, pickup routing is also done by a cnc machine, and even the fretwork is done by a PLEK machine. So overall they should be very consistent. Granted I haven't played and compared a dozen sandbergs of the same model, but I see no reason why they would have an issue with inconsistency anywhere in their production.
Thanks! Encouraging. If the density of wood/quality of wood isn't inconsistent I guess it's a rather safe buy in that case.
you can order online with your eyes closed. i just did and received a beautiful well set up bass. you should go onto the sandberg configurator, get it exacxtly how you want it and then send the pdf file to a local sandberg dealer to order it

Nice to hear you got a nice instrument, I actually like the standard setup with tortoise pickguard and Cream color. The only problem with buying 'stock' is there are no inlays in the fretboard.
Gonna check the sandberg configurator out!
NBD! Actually yesterday, Christmas came a few days early. I ordered this VM4 from Thomann online and had to wait eight weeks for the CITES process to be handled due to the rosewood. I was fine with the wait as I have a couple other basses.
The bass is great! Arrived with a perfect set up with very low action. It’s very light too, definitely lighter than my 8.5lb P bass. Sounds killer too, very versatile. Sounds great finger style or with a pick. I’m digging the reverse P config. I’ll be putting on a set of Nickel XL’s on it and taking it to rehearsal on Tuesday then it’s first gig on Jan 12th.

I highly doubt that they would have issues with that either. I actually did the same thing as @DavidWeeks and ordered mine from thomann through the online configurator. The wood grain on the walnut top on mine is actually much nicer than what they have on the configurator, and it sounds and plays amazing. Definitely ask some sandberg dealers (with the number from the configurator) what that build would cost, in my case it actually wasn't much more expensive than the same model all the stores had in stock. Just be aware that build times are 6+ months, they might even be longer now.
