Just to say a big thanks to Jim C in trying to help me out.
Not sure if anyone else can help me, I am looking for a black, preferably aged, black/white/ black guard for my Older style VM4 ( the Roquefort blue one in my avatar). I would either buy or if someone wants to swap for my aged white one? Any help appreciated.

Hey DJ, glad to help.
Mike from Sandberg didn't know about our 2 major threads on Sandberg.
Not sure if he knew about TB.
He joined and will catch up as time permits.
Maybe someday he could be a factory rep that we could contact through the board like agedhorse with Mesa, Bob from QSC, etc.
PS. My bass kills with a new FEA DE-CL compressor.
I'm a pretty solid player but a little compression makes everything fatter and smoother (to me).
It's a compressor and you can add the limiter to it; 8 knobs and super adjustable.
Makes my bass super punch and sits nicely in the live mix without sounding squashed; no pumping either.
Highly recommended.

I've been wanting to get a Sandberg TT (double single-coil) but I'm torn between choosing the TT passive or active version. Aside from the price and the active electronics, is there any other different? Also, will a TT active sound like a TT passive in passive-mode or will the circuit still affect it? (much like fender deluxe jazz basses)
Also, is there any problem in switching the pickups in a sandberg TT? say for instance I want to get some Fender Custom Shop pickups in my Sandberg TT, is that as easy to do as with a Fender Jazz?

The passive and active mode are designed to sound very similar, butbthe active just giving it a bit more oomph.
The Glockenklang pre-amp really is very good.
Delano pick ups are good and hifi sounding, and do match the pre-amp very nicely.
The new black label Sandberg in house pick ups are very very good indeed, and the old ones weren’t bad.
Personally I think with what they offer you may not want Fender pick ups, but I am sure it’s easy enough to change in and out.

Thank you for your reply. I recently tried a Sandberg TM4 at a music store and although I loved the feel, the playability and the looks of the instrument, the sound coming out of it didn't really please me. It was too "modern", too hi-fi for me. I like an halfway between vintage and modern - like a marriage of a Jazz and a Stingray. Huge, deep low end with a ton of growl but also some clean high end.
The one I tried had Delano pickups and from what I've heard on YouTube they have that sound that I don't really like. I recently saw a video with the Black Labels and it sounded pretty good to me - very different from the one I tried.
Is there a specific model/pickup you'd recommend me to check out according to my tastes?
so we just started tracking our new album a couple weeks ago. i was using my 2017 TT and we were taking our time finding tones. i have never been a passive guy but as we were messing around i put in passive to take a break. forgot to put it back into active and i was gushing about the tone the engineer was finding. he was all stoked thinking i had done some tweaking on my end. neither of us had even entertained the idea of utilizing the passive functionality.
ended up using the passive mode on the entire album and i honestly don't picture myself going back to the active mode. played unbelievably nice with the gajillion effects i use and heavy distortion.

If you get a passive TT4 give the Sandberg pickups a go. They're keeping a set of Nordstrands in my drawer that I originally intended to put my new TT4.

Yes! It sounds absolutely amazing there. Although I'm not sure if it's the player or some kind of audio processing that they did.
They do look and sound much better than Delano's. What pickups are those? Sandberg ones?
I'm not sure which pickups they are but they sound the same as my bass (give or take the different woods involved) They really are that good. My TT4 had been on the wall of the shop for a while before I bought it so may be from the same time as this one (or a little later?).
Yeah, mine seem to be fairly vintage sounding. Bass Direct's blurb says they are Delano's but it also says the fretboard is rosewood and it's maple so... (there's a lot of obvious mistakes in the bass details for a lot of their basses).
I read somewhere that all Black label pickups are humbucking even the J's.

That Umbo has to be one of the hottest basses I have ever seen!
