The dude who setuped it put Smiths with a low 130 string and already setuped it to Drop A, it sounds great and tight, no muddiness whatsoever...

i'll have a full reharsel today and a gig on thursday so i can have a more full opinion :)

Let me opt for membership also. I bought my Sanderg 3 weeks ago, after having played on a Cort bass for four years. What a difference!

Welcome mate, very nice California there. It is really a jump from Cort to Sandberg, I did something similar some years ago. Sandbergs are great, super comfortable!

I specially like the fretless, I'm GASsing so bad for a fretless right now! Does you'res have side markings?

Yeah, the fretless is the newest arrival, and it´s an amazing piece of bass. It does have side markings, but as you can see, it doesn´t have fret marks. So far, i´m pretty lost, but hopefully i´ll catch on quickly.

Ahhh you'll get used very fast, it's easy if you know how the notes should sound like. Good luck on it anyhow!

Oh if you can please post some more pics in better quality, I'd really like to see that Imbuia and the fretless one close up.

Hi,

I'm not a member but interested in buying one, but the nearest shop is 150 miles away, so...!!

How does it sound or play, passive or active? I'm particulary interested in a rosewood JJ or JM. The guy in another shop said it didn't sound as woody as an fender. To modern to his opinion, while standing there surround by a shop full of beautifull ol Fenders, the youngest from 1975.

So the tape is running and counting off!

My Sandberg California JM4 Supreme is by far the best bass I have ever owned in all the 30 odd years that I have been playing.

Build quality and materials used are all superb, action and neck absolutely brilliant.

Sound-wise, yes it is a slightly more modern sounding bass than the Fender Jazz, but you can get Jazz sounds out of it, and as you have been informed the Sandbergs are less "woody" than Fenders.

I use both Active and Passive modes, Passive mode I find gives you closest to the Fender Jazz sound, and in my experience gives the best sound for recording. The Active controls are very powerful and need to be used in moderation!

I have the JM version which has the split humbucker at the bridge position. In my opinion this is the best option as it gives you more tonal variation than the JJ (2 x Jazz style pickups), the humbucker seems to give it a lot more depth. With the flick of a switch you can turn it to single-coil anyway.

To summarise, yes it is possibly a better bass than the Fender Jazz, but that is my own personal opinion. I do still gas for a Fender Jazz as I do love their old school sound and tone, and their passive warmth. They are different basses and you will have to make up your own mind by playing both side by side. Most people that do that though end up going with the Sandberg.
