Club Sandberg ?

Bought a Fender deluxe precision which by the time I got it home had dodgy pots so it went straight back (refused to let them fix it). A week later I tried my Sandberg out and it was soooo my much better. Great neck and oooozes tone from the Delano pick-ups.

Couple of questions for you Sandbergers:

1) I have "active" pick-ups which definitely work and provided sumptuous tone - but the volume appears to be no different in active mode than it is in passive. This is not a problem in itself but I was expecting to have to switch the amp over to "active bass" mode. Maybe there is only a noticeable difference at higher volumes?

2) I know it is extemely subjective, but what would you recommend I amp the JJ with? I want to upgrade and have been looking at Ashdown's MAG amps (more tone!!) but also considering an Ampeg combo. Obviously the answer is go and try them out but I wonder if anyone had any views first?

To answer your second question,that's a tough one.There are people here (like me:cool::D:cool:) who love their Ashdown for their gracious tones and many pleasures.And then there's the BT and SVT people who swear by their Ampegs and accept no substitutes.Like your previous situation,try before you buy.I hope the fingerboard is maple as I am a sucker for one.:D:bassist::D

Thanks! Fingerboard is rosewood (no inlays). Maple may have looked better now I think of it but it was just there in the shop and I really liked it so went for it. Very happy with the pick-ups which I believe are now an extra option only.


Will give the amps a go and let you know how I get on. I suspect Ashdown is the right way for me to go as long as I can dial in some bite when needs be. Currently using an old Trace Elliot GP7SM 150 small combo (like the BLX's with the slot ported front). I gigged with it for the first time last year and at volume it didn't for me cut the mustard as I lost all that lovely Sandberg tone. Will have to sell unfortunately to fund the new combo which is a shame as it's a good practice/rehersal amp.

Hey welcome. Nice to see someone been impressed by the Sandberg California. Great bass!
Yes the active and passive mode have nearly the same volume, though from my experience the active should be a tick louder.
I play my sandberg always threw active mode on the amp...

As for a amp you should get I have no real opinion between ampeg or ashdown, but I can recommend you to try a Glockenklang if you get the chance! ;)

I would confirm that as well, the Active mode is a touch louder.

I prefer to use Passive mode in lower volume situations and for recording.

I am using my PM5 in passive mode through my Sadowsky Preamp/DI.
The onboard Glockenklang preamp is rather "clanky" compared to the outboard Sad.

Together with the original Sandberg PUs that must sound rather trebly. I am so glad I put Häussel AlNiCos into mine...

Perhaps you'll get it sooner than you expected, I was told that mine would take 12 weeks to be made but unexpectedly I got it in 6 weeks! :smug:

The guys at Sandberg were brilliant! They answered a lot of technical queries I had on the bass during the time it was being made, and kept me informed at what stage the bass was in production. They e-mailed me to let me know when it was finished and also to tell me when it had left the factory.

It only took 3 days from leaving their factory to arrive on my doorstep and that included it going first to the UK dealer that I bought it through - I was well impressed!

You will be very pleased with your Sandy, the paint finish on them is absolutely stunning and the build quality, neck & hardware superb! Enjoy!

I am new to these Sandberg Basses. i usually play Warwicks and this guy oferred me a trade for his Sandberg Basic PM 5. for one of my Warwicks. I know nothing from these basses and their main webpage is of very vague info.

anybody could tell me how much this bass would be used?

I have no pics or anything besides the model. anybody could help me?
