Nice, its just like mine! I have been thinking of selling it to make room for a soon to be finished custom. Will be posting the sale soon so keep your eyes peeled. I am going to offer it up to my teacher first before posting it. Enjoy those Sandbergs, they are phat!

I just put the Häussel Custom ALNICO PUs into the PM5.

As with all my basses, ANICO PUs DO sound ALOT better to my ears: more organic and warm (not boomy at all) low mids, cripser highs. The P sounds more P (I opted for the traditional, not the bigger MM polepieces) and the MM sounds more "pre-EB". And as always, effects (most of all drive) sounds like the sound of these magnets better.

It just sounds more alive than with the stock ceramic PUs.

I think the original Sandberg PUs don't show the full potential of these basses.
(But on the other hand, maybe it's just me. I don't like PUs with ceramic magnets at all)

It is definitely a keeper, so please take away the "For sale" note :)

Hey Gillento, I'm glad that you are finally happy with the sound of your PM5. I took away the "for sale".
Some sound clips would be nice if you get any chance!

I haven't had my Sandberg for very long, I've generally been very pleased with the sound but felt there was something a bit lacking in that it didn't seem to have too much 'punch'.

I've never been too keen on the strings that were supplied with the bass (GHS I think), I didn't really like the feel of them and thought they felt a bit loose.

Even though the strings are still fairly new sounding I decided to change them and have put on some Rotosound 66's and boy what a difference! I've never realised before what a difference different type of strings make.

The Sandberg now seems to have a lot more depth and punch - brilliant! :)

Has anyone else changed the stock strings for another make and noticed the difference?

Hi gillento,

Yeah, I thought these GHS strings were supposed to be good but I feel exactly as you do about them, i.e they're a bit thin sounding.

Although the Roto's I put on weren't brand new, (I borrowed them off my P Bass which I'm refurbing) they have certainly made a difference!

I don't know whether I'll keep the Roto's on though, I might try D'Addario Nickels on it. What do you suggest?

I am a stainless steel guy. I really like the Back Lables stainless steels by Sadowksy, as well as DR HiBeams, LORiders and the tapered ones (Long Necks, I think)

I am about to try the new Sadowsky Blue Steels, now

My modest contribution to this thread:

Sandberg California JJ5 Aero Pickups and Sadowsky preamp with VTC. Block inlays are vinyl stickers (believe me, there is no way to tell, unless you scratch the surface...which I never do, he he!)
Has pushed Pulcinella Level JJ5 and Sadowsky RV5 aside)

I'm on a borrowed pc at the moment and can't upload any pics just yet but I'm happy to stumble onto this club(I've been offline for a good few months). I've got a California JJ in three-tone sunburst with a tortoiseshell pickguard. I've owned basses that sound great and others that felt great but this was the first one I found that merged those qualities so I ended up selling my Jazz Bass and SR-5 when I got it.

While I'm gushing about sandberg, i think what actually impressed me the most was that there is virtually no loss in gain when switching from active to passive. I do a lot of theatre work playing a wide variety of music and I love the versatility of these instruments.

a couple more. I don't see this headstock as much as the one with a duller point. I like this better. Also, my pickup still says Delano not Sandberg. I had to change out the electronics a couple years ago but I re-installed new Glockenklang electronics that I ordered straight from the company.
